Except Murphy became an actor after the war. He wasn't an actor who took off to go serve his country and leave a cushy job behind where he got to be the leading many for several hot women of the time.
Not trying to put him down or anything but this is about timing. Stewart was being pressured to not go serve his country but he told everyone to go fuck themselves and did it anyway. He was already a famous actor who didn't have to go fight.
