the original version was also better because it made ROTJ self-contained. it shouldn't be necessary to watch the shit tier prequels to understand who Luke is happy to see at the end. for science I made my never-seen-SW friend watch the despecialized Star Wars and ESB before seeing TFA, but we ran out of time to watch ROTJ so I sent them YouTube clips instead. It was obvious to my friend that Anakin had redeemed himself whereas they might not have recognized Christensen (and Luke definitely wouldn't).
