Just because you have warm feelings toward a character and feel close to them and consider them important to the story doesn't mean that any other character within the story feels the same way toward that character as you do, not even if they're contagonists. Seeing Han back on the Falcon with Chewie gave me a brief glimpse back at the joy I had watching the first movies as a young boy who's spirit had not yet been crushed.
I even cried when Hand and Leia met again, and not just because of inflamed hemorrhoid I have (fuck I'm getting old too.)
It still really hurt me for some reason. Feels like the death a childhood hero, a grim reminder that I am no longer young and a lot of the people I have known are gone. My parents are seniors now and having health issues, grandparents long gone. My beloved cat is growing so old and will not live too many more years.
I just wanted to go out and watch movie and feel good for a change. But that seen ruined it for me.
The scene at the end where Chewbacca accepts Han's death and the new girl as the new pilot should have shown me that life changes and continues and that death and loss and just part of the cycle and should be feared, but it still left me feeling empty inside.
I don't fault the movie, it is my own problems accepting change in my life.

that was never my contention. my argument was that I thought it was an understandable name choice.
han could have called him kylo and it wouldn't have effected my enjoyment of the movie.
leia was sending for obi wan at the beginning of a new hope, she had reverence for him as a general or a jedi and wanted his help. and then she witnessed him sacrafice himself for their mission. he was instrumental in han and leia meeting, as well as luke. as the audience we witness this and I'm sure the characters would have come to the realization of his instrumentality in everything, you're point basically comes down to: once obi wan dies they just completely forgot about him and luke never brought him up or talked about the force or his training.

also if you read the novelization of a new hope that lucas wrote himself he goes into more detail about leia's plans to pick up obi wan and bring him to alderaan to fight for the rebellion, that was their plan before they were boarded. she knew about the force and the jedi.
