Not really. Even after Ren took off his mask, and perhaps got a little softer, he still felt like the same character as the beginning, who stopped a laser rifle bolt midway, and sliced up the control room. Anyways, villains aren't always supposed to be intimidating, ominous, mysterious, etc. That's overdone, and shown in every single superhero movie. Ren was realistic in that he was more angry and conflicted than intimidating, especially given his background. I guarentee he will be more matured after his training completes, but I hope he retains some of his traits.

Tie between Poe and Kylo. The movie started out so strong with Poe, he really felt like a true Star Wars character and played off Finn amazingly - in the short time they were on screen together they felt like Han and Luke. Kylo felt like a force to be reckoned with, my two favorite scenes are him displaying his tremendous force power (the laser freeze and the super force pull-choke). He is also heavily flawed unlike certain characters.
Snoke is close because everything about him was ominous as fuck, and the cinematography in his hologram area was top notch. He felt like seeing an EU villain in theaters.
