I think the movie would have really benefited from building up Rey some more. We see her fighting once with the bo staff on Jakku and from that we're supposed to accept she's an accomplished fighter on the same level of a Sith Lord who was trained by Luke Skywalker himself and who was apparently strong enough to kill all his fellow Jedi trainees. We see Rey has the innate strength with the Force to resist Ren's mental probing and push back enough to slightly read his thoughts, and from that we're supposed to accept that she has such a mastery of the Force that she knows she can use Jedi mind tricks and is able to do so. We knows she hunts for scraps and has a general knowledge of some tinkering, and from that we're supposed to accept she can pilot a ship she's never even seen before and perform extreme maneuvers to out-fly professional First Order pilots.
They should have played up the growth of her skills more. Or failing that, they should have accented the aspects that her actions no so inexplicably masterful and more believable, like showing Ren suffering from his wounds more or making the mind trick accidental on her part or have the Falcon have a lot of custom upgrades that made it just far superior to the enemy ships.
She was just too unreasonably good at literally everything based upon what we were shown.
