This. I was expecting the show to settle down into some predictable formula ofpirate soap opera stuck on an islandwhere I'd end up dropping it, but it's not. It's exciting.
The large budget has ensured great costume, set, actors, visual effects and the writing--despite my initial reservations--hooked me pretty quickly.
It's actuallyfun to watch and I'm excited for more.
I'd like to see them show some evolution of Silver's character, eventually.

That being said, I really enjoyed Narcos, Fargo, and Nathan for You like pretty much everyone else in this thread.
I was one of the people in the minority that actually liked True Detective S2, but I don't think it's as good as the stuff listed above.
I forgot that Better Call Saul existed.
I also loved watching Season 2 of the Strain, in the kind of way you'd watch a trainwreck. It's so hilariously bad that I absolutely, unironically love it, can't wait until next year to see more.
Now that it's over, I'd say it was a pretty solid year for TV in retrospect.
