I think the fight makes it very obvious that we are missing vital information about Rey. We already know that there is something about her that we the audience are not privy to, whether it's the simple fact of her parentage or something more involved (trained & then memory erased? something else?). But there's no other reasonable explanation for the outcome of the fight, really. Kylo is trained, and she, seemingly, isn't. That's also the only difference between Luke & Leia. Yet you don't see Leia going toe-to-toe with Vader just from meditating on the mystery of the Force.

I just got home from my second viewing too.
A lot its problems are exaggerated and I feel like a lot of the shit people say Rey does are remembering the movie wrong. There is too much fanservice, and I don't mean poetry I mean the chess table and training ball. They would have been great nods in the backgrounds but the movie cuts to them and they take up the whole screen. The chess board shot was too much.
I think anyone that complains about how great Rey or Finn are with a lightsaber need to go see it again, at least a camrip or something. Even Rey's sudden power boost midfight is set up earlier in the movie.
I give it a 7/10 with the possibility of an 8/10 if the next movie makes good on the unanswered questions.

There were so minor issues with the movie, but other than that it was great.
I never realized that a movie actually becomes pretty dull when the main character just doesn't have any weaknesses.

Why was there so little build up to the Death Star base in this movie?
We see it destroy the republic capital (which for some reason is completely unguarded) and we're told it's way bigger than the Death Star (despite looking the same size) but that's it.
I was kind of hoping they'd keep it for the sequels given how cool the idea of it essentially being a terraformed planet stealing star energy was but I guess we've always gotta go with the quick rebel sweep of destruction (it would've been a cool twist to see the rebel fighters get completely obliterated forcing the republic to regroup against the First Order).

The republic military was non interventionist. After years of civil war, most of the the galaxy didn't want anymore huge military presence so the new republic scaled down and demilitarized, thinking the first order wasn't that big of a threat beyond their territory. The resistance was fighting a proxy war against them because Leia was willing to get her hands dirty while most of the Republic wasn't, although they gave her cash and shit and would probably help if the First Order stepped out of line too much. They just weren't expecting to get BTFO by deathstar 3.0 which is a plothole but seems to happen relatively frequently in the SW's universe
