It's a mathematical certainty now. Forcefags on suicide watch.
> Avatar had only 8% overseas drop in 2nd weekend. TFA had 51%. You can't say it's because of the weak BO days due to Christmas. Avatar and TFA were both released on December 18th. Their 2nd weekend had the same issue with it being Christmas weekend. Yet, Avatar managed only 8% drop.
> TFA has actually been outpaced by Avatar ALREADY overseas in its second weekend. Avatar made $152m overseas over its second weekend, outstripping the $123.6m made by TFA by a large margin.

TFA doesn't open in China until Jan. 9th.
China is the second biggest market in the world. Expect 400 million gross at least.
>>64214389
> Suppose now that the loftiest predictions come true and TFA makes $1B domestically. With an approximate 50/50 domestic/overseas ratio without China, this leaves the film with $1b overseas, so $2b worldwide total minus China. Thus, to equal avatar, the film would need to make $780m+ in China alone. This is clearly an impossible feat.

Has Cameron ever directed something original?
Reminder that accounting for inflation, Avatar made $3 billion in 2015 dollars, not 2.7

Are u fucking kidding me? Abyss is a great example of an entirely original premise.

I can also praise it's visuals. But you can't praise anything about Star Wars. Shit plot, shit cast, shit dialogue, shit CGI cartoon aliens, shit music and most importantly, SHIT SALES FIGURES

Wow, what a hack
> Watching "Avatar," I felt sort of the same as when I saw "Star Wars" in 1977. That was another movie I walked into with uncertain expectations. James Cameron's film has been the subject of relentlessly dubious advance buzz, just as his "Titanic" was. Once again, he has silenced the doubters by simply delivering an extraordinary film. There is still at least one man in Hollywood who knows how to spend $250 million, or was it $300 million, wisely.
> Cameron promised he'd unveil the next generation of 3-D in "Avatar." I'm a notorious skeptic about this process, a needless distraction from the perfect realism of movies in 2-D. Cameron's iteration is the best I've seen -- and more importantly, one of the most carefully-employed. The film never uses 3-D simply because it has it, and doesn't promiscuously violate the fourth wall. He also seems quite aware of 3-D's weakness for dimming the picture, and even with a film set largely in interiors and a rain forest, there's sufficient light. I saw the film in 3-D on a good screen at the AMC River East and was impressed. I might be awesome in True IMAX. Good luck in getting a ticket before February.
> It takes a hell of a lot of nerve for a man to stand up at the Oscarcast and proclaim himself King of the World. James Cameron just got re-elected.
