the performances are alright but the writing is shoddy and just too self-aware
the biggest gripe for me was them not locking down one director and crew to shoot the entire season. people give pizzalotto a lot of credit but the atmosphere and consistency of season 1 is largely due to the fact that fukunaga really knows his shit. a series like this needs to be handled carefully and stylistically so that each episode resonates with the others. thematically and technically it feels like a disembodied mess of tone shifts and dramatic inconsistencies
they even try to replicate the season 1 long take scene when rust's undercover with this shootout scene thats just so poorly paced and blocked
i would definitely give it a watch but dont expect it to at all be up with season 1
