Are there any procedural crime shows that are actually entertaining to watch, or are they all just dull, episodic stuff for retirees to veg out too?

Theres like 3 or 4 people in this photo that just went on to do other cop shows. Talk about a rut.

Especially for Richard Belzer, considering he just went on to play Munch on SVU instead of Homicide.

I'd like a series that just focuses on one or two cases a season instead of LOL THE KILLER ADMITS IT TO INVESTIGATORS FOR NO REASON EVEN THO ITS A RICH WHITE MAN THAT COULD GET AWAY WITH IT XD
>>
>>64179128
Wasn't he on like four or five different shows as Munch?
>>
>>64179332
What range!
>>
>>64179332
In some capacity I'm pretty sure you're right, if we're including cameos and shit. I wanna say he did it as a cameo in both X-Files and Arrested Development, but I can't remember if that was just him acting like the character or if it was literally supposed to be Munch.
>>
>>64179418
He was definitely Munch on The Wire.
>>
>>64179172
The only show I've seen acknowledged how amazing it is that they close cases more regularly than a hallway door was The Mentalist.

It's not always a season long arc or anything, but they do in fact have longer arcs and a shit ton of unsolved cases and the show acknowledges that and makes it an issue for the detectives pretty routinely. That's because it's based on a book by a Baltimore crime reporter who actually followed a bunch of homicide detectives for a while, probably.
>>
>>64179744
The character literally moved to New York to be a detective there.
>>
>>64179744
Yeah, it was literally the same character moving from Baltimore to New York.

Fun fact. Near the end of the last season of the Wire there were three different versions of the same character on the same episode.

When NBC gave the green light to go ahead and start filming Homicide they said the writers had to change everyone's name since they were based on real people. So one of the main detective's name was changed from Jay Landsman to John Munch. Same character, different name.

When HBO gave the green light to go ahead with The Wire they said as long as everyone signed a release they could use peoples real name. So the writes used Jay Landsman as one of the characters.

The real Landsman auditioned to play himself on the show but he didn't get the part. "You're no Jay Landsman" they told him but he did get a much smaller part as Lieutenant Mello starting in the second season.

So when Munch had a cameo on The Wire and Landsman and Mello were on the same episode that is three different versions of the same person.

>>64182995
Watch the first few Homicide episodes and pay attention to the scenes of Pembleton in the box. You'll see how it's different.
>>
>>64183010
He was only a partial inspiration for those characters but they used his name
>>
>>64183010
Kinda what >>64183250 said, unless a person has a SUPER distinct personality shows/movies based on real events tend to combine the traits of IRL into one for plot convenience.
