The fact they even have a lighstsaber blocking melee weapon on a storm trooper in this movie fucks my brain; I don't get it. The stormtroopers have no reason to have that weapon, especially considering this is was one of those 'kill everyone' missions and they have no need to for a giant stun stick.
Why praise someone for not being smart and taking him down with with his long range weapon?

Not every individual character needs an arc, though. You sacrifice needed character development for people like Kylo and Rey by focusing on random enemy combatants. It's also worth noting that what made him a cool character isn't just what he did, it was the fact that he did this within the context of a bunch of faceless, nameless storm troopers. If you turned him into a character it would have been less surprising and therefore less memorable.

This bullshit of a fucking stun baton blocking a lightsaber blade is easily one of the worst things about this movie.
People try to defend it by bringing up the fact it is the same type of baton the guards of General Grious uded to block anakins and Obiwans lightsabers. Fucking please. Those robot guards had those because Grievous was hunting Jedi and taking them on. First Order Stormtroopers have not seen a lightsaber for 20 fucking years except Kylo Rens. It make no fucking sense they have a baton to block a weapon they have not seen in 30 years.
What does make sense in Disney did not want to show Finn slicing into Stormtroopers or slicing off their arms, so they made this bullshit magic stormtrooper baton able to block a fucking lightsaber

there are such things as vibro-blades that can stop a lightsaber, they're usually used by mercenaries and the like but it would make sense for a soldier of the empire to have a melee weapon in general
