What is wrong with movie critics?
TFA is obviously a bloated Ep.IV rehash, and yet most pro reviews are quite positive about it.
>>
>>64165593
Ever since internet aggregates came out no one actually reads individual reviews anymore, if you own a paper you just treat them like advertizements
>>
The "critical" community are now comprised of the nerd culture reddit sensibility drones who were raised on Tarantino. Easily susceptible to manufactured hype and brand name recognition.

Their opinion has to differ from the common people, otherwise they wouldn't be critics if they shared the same opinion as everyone

>Their opinion has to differ from the common people
It should do, but it doesn't anymore. The normies have infiltrated film criticism. The critics are heaping praise on the same empty blockbuster products that the streets plebs are lapping up. It would have been the job of the critics of yesteryear to quash capeshit, but now the major studios have pressured all of the educated critics to the fringes and filled the mainstream critical venues with blind fanboys.
>>
Nothing, they can take a star wars movie at face value and understand that tfa is a good one unlike you autists.

Because big movies like these make big buzz for movies in general and allow for this type of media entertainment to generate money.
>>
>>64165918
That's the point. They don't take it at "face value" (ie an unimaginative sequel). They're just buying into Disney's promotion steamroller.
>>
>>64166144
based lucas
>>
even the negative reviews have undertones of star wars apologism

disney has the industry by the balls
>>
It's just advertizing. There is no other explanation.

Media outlets are paid to hype blockbusters via criticism now, even if the money goes indirectly via technically legit channels.
>>
It's really weird. It's so terribly clear they attempted nothing new whatsoever with this movie and yet its getting a pass for "looking" and "feeling" okay.

Hype rules everything around me.
>>
"I find a lot of critics misunderstand my films; probably everybody's films. Very few of them spend enough time thinking about them. They look at the film once, they don't really remember what they saw, and they write the review in an hour. I mean, one spent more time on a book report in school." ~ Stanley Kubrick

Or maybe the movie is actually just good you buzzword meme-spouting pretentious retard.
>>

If you think The Force Awakens is "good" on any level then you are an infantilized manchild trapped in autistic bondage.

Except Star Wars has always been a reddit franchise and the newest entry is the most pandering entry yet.

Hello Reddit!

Hello Reddit :-)
>>
>>64165593
If you watch every mainstream movie, TFA's competence is a breath of fresh air. These are the people who have to watch and review every Marvel movie.
>>
>>64167612
>>64167659
hello reddit
>>
>>64167679
TFA is functionally identical to a marvel movie, you braindead pleb.
>>
>>64167679
TFA is objectively worse than almost any Marvel movie - but then you know that and are intentionally pretending to be a fan, aren't you?
>>
>>64165593

No. When critics think A and teenagers on the internet (/tv/ or reddit) think B, the critics are right by default.

Sorry bro. Critics can be garbage. But they'll never be as garbage or pleb as this board. So any turbo contrarianism on this board you can chalk up to plebbery, not credibility, no matter how hard to cry and whine.
>>
>>64167679
>These are the people who have to watch and review every Marvel movie.
Yeah and and almost all of those Marvel movies are given glowing reviews too. Fuck off. They're shills plain and simple.
>>
/tv/ is the only sane voice left. Critics used to be good. But now they've gone the videogame reviewer route.

>>64167243
>when anybody has an opinion I don't have it must be a shill/hack
>>
>>64167357
This is the core of everything. Most critics watch a single early showing of a movie and then write a review of that in the few days they have before the movie releases to the general public.
>>
>>64167812
Disney spent $300 million marketing this film, and they are releasing 1 a year, all of which will need marketing to the same extent if they're as bad as TFA.

The media simply can't say no to that amount of money. Either the public as a whole stop making it economical or the media will simply give anything Disney puts out a 90%+ positive rating while mumbling a few words of apology.
>>
>>64167855
bullshit

critics today are actively deceptive. Kubrick made films in an age were more than 5 companies owned the entertainment industry. it's not comparable.
>>
>>64165593
Most movie critics are paid off for a good review

Here's a challenge: get a movie that doesn't interest you a priori and watch it; then try to say something positive about it.

In the case of Roger Ebert, he was a failed movie maker who became a critic.

You know what they say, those who can't become critics.

More like a critic that tried his hand at making movies, and made a halfway decent, somewhat schlocky Roger Corman-style movie.
