Remember when they were gonna do all 6 movies in 3D?
Remember all the tie-in shit for this?
RememberTHAT'S BRISK BABY?
>>64156621
Shame they didn't go through with it. Episode III is the only one I didn't get to see in theaters, so I would've definitely seen the rerelease of that at least.
That was before Disney finalised a deal for the new trilogy.
Most of the profit from TFA came from 3D screenings anyway.
>>64156621
>tfw I actually watched the re-release of TPM
I feel like the complete and utter flop of TPM's re-release cemente Lucas' decision to sell Star Wars.
>>64156621
Just imagine that god awful cgi in 3d
>>64156621
My son took his entire class to see the movie, he's one of the only Star Wars fans in the entire class. I tried to warn him.
The other Star Wars fans in the class, hate the Phantom Menace, while most of the girls had didn't understand and were just confused
Throughout most of the movie my son was yelling "HAHA! THAT'S HOW JARJAR ROLLS! THAT'S HOW JARJAR ROLLS!" and I wanted to tell him to stop but I was sitting two rows behind from him and his friends and he was sitting between two girls so I didn't want to mess with his cool
We were LITERALLY the only people in the theater.
>tfw everyone hated the movie
>tfw my son was a social outcast after that
>tfw no one came to his parties
>tfw I tried to warn him, it's the phantom menace
>tfw I paid hundreds of dollars in tickets and food for my son to become a social outcast
>>64156771
It didn't really flop though for a 3D re-release.
>>64156974
Why did you agree to such a thing?
>>64156974
>HAHA! THAT'S HOW JARJAR ROLLS!
Oh God, I'm so sorry
>>64156621
I went to go see TPM 3D when I was stoned and it was fun
My buddy, equally stoned, was like "You know, the story's kind of a mess, some of the dialogue is flat, but dammit I love it every-time I see it for some reason"
>>64157138
He was in 3rd grade, it's understandable
I did lose a lot of respect for him though
>>64156974
>THAT'S HOW JARJAR ROLLS! THAT'S HOW JARJAR ROLLS
please tell me this is fake
>>64157086
He didn't have many friends at all, and we were never affluent enough to throw a quality party (if it was going to be a party, it was going to be sick) so once I got my new job I decided that we were going to take the class to a movie, all expenses, including popcorn and shit, paid by me, in an expensive ass AMC theatre with the reclining chairs and then we would go home for a dance party.
Unfortunately not many people came to the dance party afterwards. Just like, 6 out of 18.
>>64156974
You realise that your son will literally become Kylo Ren and kill your ass, right?
>>64157372
>A dance party for third-graders
What the fuck
>>64157594
>third-graders
When did he ever say third grade?
>>64157700
thats even worse, you paid other grownups tickets because your neckbeard son cant find friends by himself?
>>64156974
HOLY SHIT HAHAHAHA
>>64156974

>>64157217
I've seen it twice in the last few years (once with the Plinkett commentary), I couldn't believe it felt like a made for tv movie, but it was strangely comfy
>>64159925
>plinkett
Opinion discarded.
>>64156621
When my friends and I went to see it, it was nearly sold old. We couldn't even find three seats together. Plus it pushed TPM's box office total over $1 billion. Made Star Wars even more relevant (as if it already wasn't) and even more ridiculously valuable. Pushed up the selling price. mfw George Lucas is a smart businessman.
>>64159674
Same way he reacts to everything
By not being there.
>>64159925
>Plinkett
i can't stand these guys
>>64156974
>not "my wife's son"
You didn't meme so good
>>64159925
it's meant to be comfy, I think.
Think of it this way. All the other feature a galaxy falling apart and descending into war and darkness, 2&3 focus on the Clone War and 4,5,6 focus on the Galactic Civil War. I think that "comfiness" comes with the fact that TPM is probably the most innocent feeling of all the movies. That may even be why Lucas tried to make it feel more like a younger kids movie than the others in different places. Although there is this growing threat and we get the sense that Republic is reaching is starting to decay, the story is still set in a world where yeah there are some growing problems but through the initiative of average people with courage and a good heart and with the assistance and selfless actions of the Jedi Knights, evil is generally kept at bay. And at the end, with the bad space asians defeated and the "Sith Lord" killed, two different civilizations who don't normally come together do so to celebrate their mutual victory. Anakin and Padme smile at each other (foreshadowing they're gonna do it) Obi-Wan stands triumphantly next to his promising new apprentice, R2 beeps and boops things feel like they're gonna be alright.;^)
I think there's a lot of things that could have been done better, but I very much like the tone of TPM especially when placed next to the following entries in the saga.
Jelly of my poster guies?
>>64157372
That still sounds stupid as fuck. Your kid would be less of a social pariah now if you said you can't afford a party or if you just said no to The Phantom Menace.
>>64162109
I think that another thing is Lucas wanted to emulate Spielberg a lot in this movie
>>64162486
How so? I'm not a huge enough Spielberg nut to notice such things (I think he's a bit of a kike). I know you see ET's race in the Senate as an easter egg.
>>64162211
why
>>64160828
>No theater showers
Bad meme'd
>>64156974
things that never happened. you suck Mike.
>>64162557
I think it was this Spielbergian sense of adventure he wanted to create, especially Anakin's 'arch' ('it's working!') was what led me to believe this
TPM in 3D was just a murky fucking mess. Not once did the 3D add anything to the visuals. Now Jurassic Park 3D was amazing. They did a really good job with that. The scenes in the rain were unbelievably good. Laura Dern's ass in those shorts was worth the price of admission by itself.
HURRY UP, QUI-GON!

Hey reddit
>>64156621
All three prequel films have been shown in 3D. So the work has been done. I don't understand why we don't have a 3D bluray release.
