2 Billion would still put it above the original release of Titanic ($1.84 Billion). Remember that Titanic has been rereleased, which is what the $2.18 Billion amount is taking into account.

Chinese couldn't care less for your children space flick. Won't make much over there.
>>
>>64154274

Prequels made 800 million $ per movie.

TFA beat that in a week.
>>
>>64153326
Actually these are the estimates for TFA's total after the end of Sunday. If these estimates hold, it took 12 days for it to reach the total, counting from the earliest release date in the first overseas market it was released in (which is how it's done). For comparison, Jurassic World did it in 13.
>>

Can you put that into perspective?
>>
>>64154803

There's no "slower burn" in foreign countries. They've earned THE SAME. That's my point. You have to remember that in terms of population and GDP, the United States is on par with ALL OF EUROPE, not just a single country. So if Star Wars has earned and equal amount of money in foreign box offices as domestic, it means they're all experiencing the same levels of consumption. Americans are not seeing the movie any more frequently or more often than anyone in other countries, otherwise there would be an actual disparity between the domestic and foreign box office earnings.

Because it means we are stuck with with endless sequels and offshoots for a decade now. Star Wars merch lines the walls of literally every store now. If you are neet and don't go outside, then /tv/ is ruined as well. This movie isn't even generating memes. There is no plus side to it except to hope the market becomes so over-saturated that the whole thing collapses, but Star Wars is such a cult that they can release fresh garbage with a Star Wars logo on it and fans will pay to shove it up their own ass.
>>

Or maybe people aren't as flippant and shallow as you seem to think. Maybe they're actual humans with preferences who just want to see a fun space movie. Maybe if you actually talked to people instead of crossposting on /r9k/ ever 30 seconds you'd realize that people have personalities and motivations beyond social media. The people sitting next to me in the theatre seemed like normal well adjusted individuals who were excited to finally see another star wars. I swear to god you fuckers think you know everything about the human condition yet can't see the irony in being addicted to a form of social media yourselves.
>>
>>64155877
No, you stupid fucking Cameronfag, you're just misrepresenting how obnoxious and cartoonish you spergs come off as.

Face it, Avatar is shit, and most of his Filmography is weak, but you mongoloids lapped it up because you latched onto it like the social leeches you are, by that I mean redditors.

I bet you fucks actually believe you're responsible for the flick/movie/film meme, when in reality it was just a way to infuriate /lit/ and /mu/ elitists who were gumming up discussions.

I pity you. Or I would if I didn't know what kind of impotent scum you are.
>>
>>64155953

Everyone bought it, but then when they watched it at home they stopped caring. The sales of the blu-rays were people coming off the hype from the theaters.

Just about everyone has a copy of Avatar in their home, but I don't know anyone who ever watched it more than once. That's why it fell into obscurity.

WB? They are eternal enemies, but Disney has always been on top money wise. Dreamwork's CGI animated features make more money in general, but Disney's Marvel flicks and TFA beats them out of the park. They're already well on their way to owning Spiderman.

DOMESTICALLY
>>
>>64156851
Domestic is best for business, Billy.
They get a larger cut. And speaking of business.

Think of how well it's doing business for theaters across America. It's almost the best thing for them, with Star Wars being so popular and they're raking in the dough.

Restaurants are proly spiking up too. Because most people like to go out and eat after, and discuss the flick.
>>
>>64156717
While avatar's domestic record is not partcularly impressive (even though it remains the highest-grossing film of all time domestically), its overseas record is off the chart. It made over $2b overseas, which is nearly double its nearest competitor.

>>64156885
Do you work for Disney? The only relevant record is "the highest-grossing movie of all time".

>>
>>64157136
The studio isn't a person.
>>
>>64156939
>Star wars fanboys trying to spin it to make star wars look better for being so pathetic overseas

Why is it relevant to anyone except the studio itself how much of a cut they get from each market? The indicator of success to literally everyone is "how much did this film make worldwide?"

I don't see any box office records sites tracking "the most profit a film has made for a studio" record. The hilarious thing is that even if that was a relevant record that anyone cared about, Avatar would STILL win despite making less domestically than TFA because the film will have made close to $1b more than TFA overseas by the end of its theatrical run. Even at a 25% average cut over all overseas markets that's $250m additional profit over TFA overseas. Now assume that the studio gets 60% of all domestic box office gross. TFA will out-gross avatar domestically by around $200m, which makes $120m profit over avatar domestically. 250 >>> 120, so Avatar STILL wins. Kek.

Maybe a few years ago. China's market is YUUGE, compared to a couple years ago or so. Jurassic World and the new Avengers both broke over $200mil there.
It's the second highest market and often competes with the domestic take.

It's going to fucking boom in China. No way they don't fall in love with Rey. And it's going to spike in all the other Asian markets again, because they like to spite China and they liked it before they did.

>>64157454
>>64157482
The fact of the matter is m8 that it's already too late for China to even make a difference to TFA's chances to outgross Avatar, which are now literally 0%.

Let's suppose the most lofty estimates and assume that TFA grosses $1b in China. As we've seen, it's struggling to maintain a 50/50 domestic/overseas ratio without the help of China, so let's assume it stays that way. That's $1b domestic, $1b overseas minus China. That leaves the movie needing $750m in China to equal Avatar, which is literally impossible.

It was over the moment TFA opened with a 47%/53% domestic/overseas ratio that only got worse as the days progressed. Anyone in their right mind would have realized this by the historic incredibly poor domestic/overseas ratios that every other star wars film has had compared to other films of the time that were released. TFA literally NEVER had a chance at outgrossing Avatar.
>>
>>64157591

Then justify Furious 7, Jurassic World, Transformers 4, Avengers and Avatar

Surely the cared a lot for those.

These franchises weren't feeding on nostalgia, one has dinosaurs, another transformers, and Avatar is just awesome.

Chinese numbers usually follow worldwide numbers for other countries. Avatar was popular everywhere, Star Wars is dropping everywhere. China is not going to be the sole place where suddenly it makes huge bank. It'll follow suit and have mediocre box office.
