>What is christmas day
What better way to torture your relatives by going and seeing a shitty movie so you don't have to talk to each other?

TFA is literally just a massive marketing campaign using a paid for franchise to get all that Christmas money out of people, either by toys, ticket sales or whatever else.

>Gone with the Wind held the record of highest-grossing film for twenty-five years, and, adjusted for inflation, has earned more than any other film.

It seems like the two kinds of movies that make the top spot are either technical epics, or great historical epics generally. When the rest of the world thinks of the west, they think of these highly traditionalist stories. Gone with the Wind and Titanic is not a highly feminist movies, instead the women actually look like women.

Still there's got to be some other element to their success.

Gone with the wind honestly shouldn't be counted in this anymore. It was in theaters for like 5 years and in many places was the ONLY movie. that combined with no home video options of course meant it was going to sell a lot of tickets.

Avengers made $54 million in Australia
Avengers AoU made $30 million

Also jesus christ $105 million to a population of 22 million at the time, that's $4.77 per person (US&Canada made $2.20 per person)

It's like Furious 7 in Finland, which made $25 million (It only made 4 million in Sweden, 5 million in Denmark and 6 million in Norway), making $4.62 per person (Furious 7 made 99c per person in US & Canada)

A long time. The theater near me at the time didn't take Avatar off until like a week before the DVD came out. Even then the 2nd run theater here kept it on for like 3 months when they usually don't have a movie longer than a week.

IMAX next to my restaurant had to add showtimes at like 7 in the morning and 1:30 at night this entire week and even those mostly sold out (in a ~350 seat theater.).

They sold out every showing in every screen after 10am yesterday.

And how could we say that they're not going to treat TFA like that?
It's still way to fucking early to calculate shit like that.

Something this big should be held the fuck off a bit longer for Blu/DVD release. No shit, like Sept. or Oct. of 2016 to help hype Rogue One too.

That, with a long run of duration. There'll still be theaters that'll have even still one screen of Star Wars showing. Because people still keep coming to see it.

Watch they do the same thing that Jurassic World did later after it's initial run of jumping back on the big screen for a short time. To rake up some dough.

Nobody really knows what's going to happen in China. They don't like Star Wars but Disney seems to have some footing there, Age of Ultron did pretty well there.
>>
Okay so China has technically been saving could-of-been doomed blockbusters from poor performance in US and other territories. Unlike the Fant4stiq shit that got embargoed like the fucking Trade Federation was handling the shit. Most recent movies like Transformers, TMNT or even Terminator Genisys which I really enjoyed.

They helped propel them to greater success.

Star Wars is going to be the 2nd coming of their RotTK.
What's their new year anyway? Isn't it like a week or so after ours? Or a month and some change?

Nevertheless, SW will wreck havoc.
>>
>>64121141

It will have legs. All of my co-workers are going to see it together on NYD after brunch service ends. Like we've had tickets for months. Not to mention it's going to be a more attractive option for a trip to the movies in Jan/Feb than most of the garbage that gets dumped in those months.

You don't say.

It was a pretty decent movie. Used a shitload from the OT, but that's okay. Rey was too powerful and knew too much about shit, but it wasn't only a little too much.
