"31" the new horror movie from Rob Zombie just received a NC-17 classification (highest classification there is, the only above R) after submiting the movie two times for analysis. the MPAA said that the movie had sadistic and graphic violence, sexuality and bizarre nudity,disturbing and invasive images.
Now Zombie is re-editing the movie to try to get it to be at least rated R.
What are your thoughts on this?
His movies are usually a joy to look at and listen to.
Zombie is the only interesting horror auteur working today. He still makes shit films, but more power to him.
I like him better when he is ripping off Ken Russell.
Zombie's a good director, Halloween 2 is one of my all time favorites, but I really don't like the sound of this movie so far.

The first Halloween remake is really good, it changes just enough to make the story interesting.

Devil's Rejects and The Haunted World of El Superbeasto are the only ones I own.
Rob Zombie is always interesting when he's doing his own material, but not always "good"(whatever that means). He basically makes horror schlock that's not meant to be taken seriously and is more of a vehicle for interesting visuals, but his movies suffer from technical issues(breaks the 180 axis constantly for no reason, etc), his writing tends to be edgy and forced, and his wife can't act for shit and he puts her in everything, but when he's not butchering someone else's work with a remake, I don't mind this. For 31 I'll probably wait until an uncut or unrated version is out and then watch it.

Sometimes directors, when showing film to MPAA, put over the top things to it to contrast it with rest of the scenes so they have a better chance of getting their actual vision through (MPAA says this weird violence was too much > NC17 > Actual bits he wanted in the movie get through because they werent so horrible in contrast to the stuff the ratings board wants removed)
