Now that no further films are being released this year, what were your best 10 of 2015?
Mine are pic related. First four are 8/10, other six are 7/10.
It wasn't a great year.

can already tell 2016 is gonna be a fuckin nightmare masterpiece, it's gonna be great

A lot of terrible shit on your list. You have weird taste.

Joy is the singular great movie of the year.

No, I'm not trolling you cynical retards, this is the great American film we have been waiting for: a personalization of the modern entrepreneurial spirit hemmed and torn by familial obligations, social manipulation, capitalist exploitation and personal ambition. David O Russell throws every visual component of cinema into play, superb lighting and silhouette, perspective shots, dollies, floating steadicam, everything to explore the tumultuous effects of desperate industrialization on the human psyche.

If there is any fucking justice in the world, this will show up on the Sight&Sound list in decades to come as a truly insightful and heroic look at the price of modern individualism. Wow, this makes up for the whole of 2015. One of the shittiest years in recent memory ending on a high note the likes of which have not been seen in decades.

Guillermo Del Toro's new thriller.
>>
>>64112466
1. Phoenix
2. Sicario
3. Queen of Earth
4. Wild Tales
5. Room
6. Carol
7. The Revenant
8. Bone Tomahawk
9. Lost River

Can't think of a tenth one - A Most Violent Year was just about 2014 but I really liked that. Yet to watch Brooklyn, Anomalisa, Slow West and a few others.

Even tentatively, the likes of Black Mass, Ex Machina and Star Wars don't belong in a top ten
>>
I've only seen a couple of 2015 movies, but I really liked Fury Road, Blackhat, Cop Car.
>>
1. "Queen of Earth" (dir. Alex Ross Perry)
2. "The Murder Case of Hana & Alice" (dir. Shunji Iwai)
3. "Taxi" (dir. Jafar Panahi)
4. "The Kindergarten Teacher" (dir. Nadav Lapid)
5. "Mistress America" (dir. Noah Baumbach)
6. "I Don't Love You" (dir. Pavel Kostomarov & Alexandr Rastorguev)
7. "Nasty Baby" (dir. Sebastian Silva)
8. "Buzzard" (dir. Joel Potrykus)
9. "Hill of Freedom" (dir. Sangsoo Hong)
10. "Eden" (dir. Mia Hansen-Love)

Honorable mentions (in alphabetical order):

"Bone Tomahawk" (dir. S. Craig Zahler)
"Christmas, Again" (dir. Charles Poekel)
"Digging for Fire" (dir. Joe Swanberg)
"Entertainment" (dir. Rick Alverson)
"From What Is Before" (dir. Lav Diaz)
"Heaven Knows What" (dir. Ben & Joshua Safdie)
"Magic Mike XXL" (dir. Gregory Jacobs)
"Mia Madre" (dir. Nanni Moretti)
"Pasolini" (dir. Abel Ferrara)
"Reality" (dir. Quentin Dupieux)
"Steve Jobs" (dir. Danny Boyle)
"Vincent" (dir. Thomas Salvador)
"The Visit" (dir. M. Night Shyamalan)

"The Treasure" is the best new movie I saw in 2015, but I will count it as a 2016 movie later.

>the likes of Black Mass, Ex Machina and Star Wars don't belong in a top ten
They do if it was a bad year. Top 10 doesn't mean good movies. It means the best of what we got.
>>
>>64113511
the trailer kind of reminds me of bram stokers dracula, but it also looks like a shitty horror movie. is it actually worth watching? judging by the rest of op's list it's hard to tell.
>>
>>64113593
i agree with 7/10
>>
>>64113100
are you sure?

David O Russel is usually pretty bland

>Even tentatively, the likes of Black Mass, Ex Machina and Star Wars don't belong in a top ten
That's fucking hilarious coming from a fucking pleb who thinks Spicario was worth a shit let alone top 2 on any 'best of' list.

Movie was just juvenile run of the mill thriller nothing more.
>>
>>64113100
uh...

you know what? nah, not gonna do it

I'm not anyone's friend who thinks trash like Villeneuve is good. Bottom of the barrel director carried solely by pretty, if not meaningless in the context of the narrative, images.
>>
>>64113749
His point stands. Do you possess the ability to rate films or are you simply here to call other people stupid?
>>
>>64113538
I don't know why would you link Ex Machina with those other two considering all the indie trash you got there, it's far more similar to that

Only to those blind to his intentions. In other words, plebs and for whatever reason, he is the greatest pleb filter of the modern cinema. Look at how they eviscerate him on reddit. Look at this fuckers >>64113657 braindead dismissal. All because O Russell refuses to dumb down narrative complexity into a solipsistic meme. Joy is his greatest triumph yet, the closest thing to Citizen Kane in decades and actually a lot less facile. Don't let the unwashed masses sway you, engage your brain and experience a wild 2 hours of the best filmmaking craft in the modern cinema.

Honestly, anyone who had a clear head during Prisoners and Enemy could see his falseness pretty clearly and would not be surprised at Sicario's empty drama. Villenueve is at best a low rent Fincher, someone who delights in yelling at their audience "It's not what you think!" for 2 hours. He can't even pad of the running time anymore, half the fucking thing is establishing shots courtesy of Deakins meme cinnamonography
>>
>>64112466
>Martian
>8/10

Watched it yesterday - it started off nice, but soon I realized I'm basically watching 2,5 hrs long NASA ad with more non-scientific bullshit than Interstallar.
>>
>>64114097
And it's not like Deakins cinematography is that interesting, and you can clearly see in Prisoners and Spicario that DV has no ideas of his own and is riding at Roger's back the whole time.

At least Andrew Dominik could use Roger Deakins to good extent and so did Coens for once with NCFOM.

Fuck I hate how self-obsessed the movie with establishing shots and in no way does it ever try to dig into the characters. The mruder of the jefes family is probably the worst offender.

Just so inoffensive polite exploitation you do to show you've addressed an issue and move on.

>>
>>64114740
That was a cowardly simplistic and jingoistic take on the cold war, senpai. No hesitation at all to say that TFA was better, anyone following Spielberg knows he chopped his balls off a decade ago. Even Armond was dismayed at this.
>>
>All these garbage action movies
>No Fury Road or Ghost Protocol in any list
are you actionplebs just pretending to have a bad taste or are you really just so fucking full of your gamergate ideology you can't appreciate good movies if they introduce a female that's not a sheep?
>>
>>64114743
Danny Boyle's directing was mundane, and Aaron Sorkin screenplay was melodramatic, but I actually thought that the "Steve Jobs" character was interesting and "truthful", exceptionally so when compared to the protagonists of most Hollywood biopics. His arrogance and vulnerability clicked for me; he reminded me of the Sherlock Holmes character in the 2010 BBC TV series, but smarter and more likeable.
>>
>>64114807
Armond's opinion is not worth shit, he thinks Sicario and Knock Knock are actually good
>>
>>64114875
How is Fassbender's performance that's the only thing which interests me when it comes to the movie?
>>
>>64114880
True, he's out there for sure (haven't seen Knock Knock) but if there's anything he's been consistent on, it's been his love of the Beard. Read his review, it's like he just found out his son is a goatfucker

I've only seen 16 films this year so a top 10 wouldn't really mean much. Feels a bit shit really, saw 33 last year and 41 the year before.

There's the lot ranked, anyway. Tangerine might be unfair since I walked out partway through since the shakycam was making me feel ill, but wasn't enjoying it up to that point anyway.

Would say the top 6 are the only ones I would actively recommend.
