Curtis's confession fell flat when I watched it. I know Ed Harris is a better actor but he felt bored in this movie. Tilda Swinton is the best part but that's because she hammed it up. I don't think she took the movie or director very seriously and just played it her way.

The barrel can't contain the pressure on its own. With a regular round, the energy is diverted into pushing a bullet out of the barrel. With blanks, you need to use a blank firing adaptor, which is a sort of butt plug thing that goes on the muzzle, and gets pushed on as if it were a bullet.
