I hate Abrams because he added TR8R as a bit of a distraction, while the characters that were actually supposed to be a threat were two-dimensional walking memes just present to sell toys. She should have actually been leading her soldiers in their fight scenes, the troopers should have been moving consistently and effectively. Instead of blowing the bar up immediately they should have had a shoot out with the scum and villainy inside, which would be a great chance to showcase some wacky space guns and over the top cowboy style gunslinging against the troopers ruthless effectiveness.
After shooting down a couple of aliens she could have had a fist fight against Finn with his saber, got blasted by some alien from behind and trapped under the wreckage when the place actually got blown up. Then she'd actually seem when she crawled out of the wreckage and her surrendering to Finn later wouldn't be an act of blatant cowardice, since she'd know she couldn't win.
