The tension with DS9 was about business, not creativity. DS9 was a syndicated series. Buyers of such series strongly prefer shows without season-long story arcs. All of this seems quaint in the Netflix era but back then it was a serious concern.

Deep Space Nine did nothing wrong.
Except for introducing the Pah-Wraiths and turning the Bajoran religion into generic Good-Versus-Evil pap. And except for continuing the Mirror Universe storyline after its third episode. And except for removing the bisexuality aspect from Garak's character. And except for removing Kira from the O'Brien family's lives after she birthed their baby. And except for setting the final party in Vic's instead of Quark's. And except for removing Jadzia from the clip show. And except for setting up Ezri with Bashir instead of Jake. And except for introducing Solbor so late into the show, when he should have been a foil for Winn for years. And except for not including Worf's Enterprise friends in his wedding (Quark has holo-emitters in the bar, so they could have showed up as long-distance holo-transmissions).
But other than that, Deep Space Nine did nothing wrong.

He says he would have liked to have finished Enterprise properly and he certainly would have liked to have produced a big budget Trek movie. Generally, people don't realize that Paramount used the movie franchise as a piggy bank & asked him to make each of the movies on a shoestring (especially after you subtract Stewart's fee).

This story is great so I'll tell it real quickly. They were extremely nervous about presenting a bald guy as the new Captain Kirk, but they also knew he was the perfect choice. During the early stages of development, they had Patrick & one other finalist (I forget who) read for the Paramount execs.
At the last second, they decided to put him in a wig so the baldness wouldn't distract. After the top guy at Paramount TV watched both actors read, he delivered his verdict: "Go with the English guy. But lose the wig."
