Does anyone else seriously doubt the sincerity of Max Landis? Maybe it's a defense mechanism, but I honestly can't believe his persona is anything but a put-on. There can't be a human being that fundamentally unlikable and distasteful.

He embodies every single negative stereotype about his generation. That's why I sometimes suspect he's doing performance art, like he's invented "Max Landis" to be the ur-millenial the way "Max Headroom" captured the 80s zeitgeist.

He's a narcissist. He's obnoxious. He's simultaneously obsessed with and repulsed by social media. He is so consumed with how other perceive him that he tries to override all those circuits and boldly proclaim "I don't give a fuck what you think" while remaining hungry for attention and approval.

There's a pathos I see in Landis. There's a desperation. There's a sort of nervous, boundless enthusiasm directed at nothing but self-aggrandizement. If we lived in a saner time, perhaps he'd channel it into something productive. But instead, he uses his substantial verbal IQ to discuss the crystalline structure of buttons and switches in the Fortress of Solitude.

He's literally onanism: the person. And I hope he's LARPing for our amusement. If Max Landis actually exists, then we've degenerated further that I thought.

Max Landis loses his head more often than Vic Morrow.

I find his mannerisms off-putting but I respect anyone who's willing to call TFA's cast "videogame characters" (which they are).

He looks at films on a deeper level than any of the people he surrounds himself with.
