SW is basically a fantasy soap opera that happens to be set in space.
2001 is sci-fi special effects porn with a simple "wow deep" story about life and shit.
Solaris is the best because it only uses the sci-fi setting as a background for much more, instead of relying on it to tell its story and amaze people with cool shit.
