An HOUR into the movie we finally get a better idea of the bigger picture. The Order fires up the nth Death Star, but something terrible happens. The movie goes to shit. IMMEDIATELY after Maz gives Rey the talk she needs about the force, her legacy, and leaving Jakku behind, we see that there's no wonderment or consideration in Rey's eyes. She doesn't close them and try to feel the force like Maz tells her. She refuses the saber and fucking runs into the forest. Then instead of Rey having an "I just felt something terrible happen" moment and going to CONFIRM her abilities with the force and her bigger place in the galaxy, they just cut from this galactic tragedy straight to poor Rey's plight in the forest with her still attempting to escape it all. WHAT A JOKE. Now I know who's fucking important. 70 minutes in and I'm still watching a do-it-all selfish coward try to escape. Luke found his motivation in 40 minutes when he realizes, even though his vague relatives had just died, quote, "there's nothing for me here now." He had nothing to lose and just wanted to help where he could, it even lended to his naive underdog character. Yet Rey has fucking nothing to go back to, she has no personal impetus or altruism, she fucking runs away, straight into Kylo, where self-preservation takes her reins from then on. And not only that, but she picks up Jedi mind tricks for no reason (which is okay because the scene was funny and did not break the fourth wall) and then proceeds to kick Kylo's ass for no reason (after he beats her back all the way to the cliff, where we're left to HOPE that shutting her eyes was the dark side giving her some depth of character). Then deus ex Disney prevents any meaningful resolution between them, everyone escapes, R2 turns on for no fucking reason, and the movie awkwardly ends in a way unlike the classic circular wipe of all the other movies as one final "fuck you." I liked the Rey character, as a character. Struggling to survive, by herself on the planet since she was a kid. Not even getting paid in money, but food on the planet for whatever she could scrape off of old ships on the planet. I was like, "fuck this kid has a horrible life, I hope things shape up for her."
What she was able to do however, in some places was bullshit. They want you to ignore how unbelievable all the shit she does is because she's basically got nothing in the beginning.

Anakin's mastery of pod racing came at a price which was time, effort and constant failure unto success. he made a droid, a clunky, unfinished malfunctioning one but that was not outside his skill set because he worked for Wattoo in his shop and he was seen to have tonnes of droid guts and pieces in his room.
He built a barley functioning robot, what a gary stu.
In the final battle Anakin admitted the fighter's controls were like a pod racer, and he was taken to battle via remote like all the fighters were. once there, he used his TRAINED force sixth sense of avoiding danger and obstacles and braved the lazer fire until he, while running from ships, landed on the battle curiser. engines overheating he's forced to ask R2 to bring the weapons on line, while he desperately tries to restart engine. engine restarts and while firing at dozens of droids that surround him, he accidently strikes a fuel tank.
If anything the only Gary Stu in TPM was Jar Jar Binks.
