The entire film was about him choosing his humanity and throwing away anything kryptonian about his character.
You know that speech in kill bill 2 about how superman dresses up like humans because he finds them cowardly? This entire film is about him looking at the ideals of krypton and him finding them wanting and then choosing humanity instead. He'll always be an alien, but he'll always fight for human values
