Maybe she was trained by a Sith from birth but then Luke took her away and abandoned her on Jakka with a mind wipe so she wouldn't turn out a danger to the galaxy. Then during the fight with Kylo Ren it all came back to her and that's why all of a sudden she can kick his ass.
