Godzilla 2014 was a moderate success, about above average (toho learned from final wars and decided to NOT release to in the winter time along side a competing Miyazaki film and released 2014 in July).

Another remake/sequel of G'54 it seems. Just like in 1984. It's fine but looks like they don't want to make a big franchise in this series. How do you build a series around this monstrosity? So perhaps we may get another millennium series so lots of stand alone projects.

trying to turn the Godzilla franchise into a Marvel Cinematic Universe imitator is a bad idea imo and will end even worse than the attempt to do the same thing with the DU. cramming rodan, ghodirah, and mothra into one movie wont leave enough screentime for any one monster and the movie will end up being a crowded mess. they need to let these things evolve organically and attract a new fanbase over a series of movies, but everyone wants to rush their franchise straight to the Avengers 2 stage with ensemble casts and crossovers and shit while skipping all the steps Marvel took to build up to that point.

They don't need to do it that way, toho did that shit way back when with destroy all monsters and monster zero, they often introduced multiple monsters in one movie, no extra movie needed. And they still felt less of a jumbled mess than avengers 2

That worked or toho because 1) they were making low budget movies for children and 2) most of the kaiju had already starred in their own movies before being rolled into the godzilla series. this new american series is a big budget tentpole affair, and the director prefers to pour his budget into a few scenes to maximize the effect of the cgi. there just wont be enough time for a new audience generation to become acclimated to all these characters.

Only Mothra and Rodan had their own movies, the rest were movie intros. Baragan and Gorosaurus hd roles as mooks in other movies. The audience regardless won't look at most of them as characters in the same way we do because they really just go for action and stuff and identify with humans. I for one thing ambiguity of character works and has worked in the past for the series, and it was really for kids and action watching adults (in japan at least), both go for the same audience

It's going to be shit. Just like all the other Japanese Godzillas. Japan hates creativity, so it's going to revert everything that made the proper American Godzillas interesting. At least those movies tried to do something different, here it looks like a retread of the same shit Toho has been doing for decades. I doubt it's even going to be in English, in which case my interest in it's instantly unsubscribed. Looks like we may have to wait another 20 years for a third American Godzilla reboot when Toho runs out of money again and cries for help from Hollywood to revitalize the series, to which they will again turn their backs and scream self proclaimed superiority from the "baka gaijin popcorn movies".
