This scene feels sterile and boring. It has none of the impact of Murphy's murder in the original. It's also where it's revealed that his memories are entirely intact, setting up the lame family melodrama that'll be one of the primary focuses of the film.
I don't know why this is always held up as being the one good scene in the movie.

The writing and pacing was awful. It was no different from any modern action movie that just roars by at a constant breakneck pace. There's no breathing room. Nobody ever pauses for a second. Every scene exists only to shuffle you along as quickly as possible into the next big set piece.
