He was ok. He was like a Governor Tarkin on steroids. I like that Snoke seems to value both Kylo and Hux for different reasons and they have a disdain for each other.
It kind of calls out an issue that many people have noticed with Tarkin, and that is how he seems to outrank Vader on the Death Star even though Vader is the Emperor's right hand man. This kind of takes that idea to it's logical conclusion. They fucking hate each other.

If they cast a Tarkin there's nowhere for the character to go, it just stays flat. By casting both Hux and Kylo on the same team but against each other, they give both characters room to grow over the movies.

I don't think that would be as interesting and dynamic as they want the new trilogy to be. We want to see lots of running and fighting and stuff. If Tarkin had survived the OT, then sure have him, but just having a Tarkin clone old man would be too boring. Having a young guy, a pre-Tarkin the way they have a pre-Vader guy, is more cool imo.

It's more likely that they were afraid of Adam Driver's whiny character looking even more pathetic if an actor with gravitas had been the military leader.
Of course Domnhall acting in a more authoritative way would have had the same effect, but an older actor wouldn't have been able to pull off shrill and obsequious as well.
This is the problem with weakening your primary villain, it means all the other villains have to be less impressive to avoid causing the whole movie to collapse.

That's true for a conventional army but after the Empire fell there would have been tons of little splinter groups. It's not unreasonable to think that the 1st order was one of them and he was a major player in it. When the 1st order became the most powerful he probably would end up being a general.

Eh. I found Hux believable. He was like early Hitler, still trying to assert himself as the boss, but not quite there. Hitler was regarded as something of a phenomenon because he came alive in speeches, but outside of his rallies he was rather shy around women and overly polite in that socially awkward way.
I'm not sure what they'll do with Hux, but I think whatever it is, it's going to be awesome.

I dont like this character very very much because I dont like how he meshed with the other cast of Villains ( Phasma and Kylo. )
This may just be me being nostalgic over Tarkin but he looked way too young and emotional, Kylo is supposed to be the youthful and emotional character, it felt weird having the military commander character look like he is 25 and be on the verge of crying during his speech.
I legitimately couldnt take his character seriously.
