popular = bad
why is this?
>popular = bad
but that's a lie
only an underage contrarian would think like that
It's not true BUT
Popularity inherently equates to some degree of mass appeal, and usually people really interested in the arts find the best to be pieces that speak to them directly, which is less likely to happen within the homogeneous mainstream

Because it's always true.
Sturgeon's Law
It's not BECAUSE they're popular
It's because it's lazy commercialized garbage that were produced from start to finish to be insipid pablum with the intention of pandering to the lowest common denominator
I think Alvin & The Chipmunks is bad for much of the same reasons as TFA. They're both shamless cash-ins devoid of sincere profundity.
Agreed. Anyone that says the upcoming female Ghostbusters(which is guaranteed to be good) is shit is clearly a contrarian
More people talk badly about popular things because nothing can please everyone. So the more people exposed to something, the higher the number of people not pleased.
Its simple numbers.
effect intensifies when you factor trolling.
This doesn't mean complaints/criticisms of popular things are not valid, just inevitable.
Not always though.
But it might have to do with the fact that most humans suck and so does their taste

Sturgeon's law
If 90% of everything is shit, then 90% of people's opinions are shit. So if most people think something is good then it is actually shit.
people are garbage ao their tastes are as well
