it sucked. and if not for Harrison Ford and Chewbacca the movie would have been as completely unwatchable as the prequels. maybe worse in its mediocrity, poor editing, lack of subtext, or hamfisted subtext, and the weird un-star wars like cinematography and music.
you have the black guy playing a runaway slave who even gets named much like kunta kinte (I'll call you Finn, (like the slave huckleberry Finn? )
the girl who obviously is Luke's daughter and a jedi that trained with Luke for like 2 seconds and was hidden for her safety. considering this clue was given away in the trailer and her "memory" coming back.
the weird use of the OT music and the completely forgettable original music for TFA. the resistance theme sounds like something from the American revolution and way too cheery to give me a sense of danger.
and in fact there didn't feel like there was any sense of danger at all in this film.
the ending has to be the cheesiest soap opera highlander shit I ever saw.
the cinematography was all over the place and only corrects itself when they are in the falcon since they have a point of reference to where the camera should be placed and lit.
and I could even nitpick little things, like this weird globular dissolve wipe to the next scene.
it felt like a TV movie with a very high budget. the script was one dimensional and with no character. You don't care about the characters , especially when the original characters are carrying the film. So that leaves the leads playing sidekick and not much else. sure it will be rectified later but this is still a story about the old guard
which would be fine if they didn't shoehorn the new characters as if they were so important. Kylo wasn't menacing but I have no complaints about his character.
I could rant forever about this (and I wish I could) but I can honestly say the prequels made more literary and canonical sense then TFA.

Don't get me wrong, I loved watching Ren-Ren fuck shit up with his lightsaber when he got pissed. I liked seeing that rage. It was cool, and that bit with the Storm Troopers turning the fuck around and going the other way was hilarious. It's just how you could imagine people trying to avoid Vader on the Executor, and going "Fuck, thank god I'm wearing a helmet and he doesn't know my face."
I just don't understand why they do so much to make him look weak. That bit with Vader's helmet was a bit too revealing, it should have been played subtler, like an officer entering his quarters and hearing him mumble something before stopping to address the dumb shit who came to see him. Would have made him look bonkers and unsettling. The only time he ever should have taken his helmet off was for Han. They definitely shouldn't have revealed his parentage so flippantly. Why didn't we get to see him fuck some people up? Something to make people scared of him? He fails as a villain and ends up looking like someone who'll just be a perpetual nuisance. It'd be like watching Vader get a wedgie and a kick in the nuts in A New Hope; His credibility is kind of shot.
And why did we even need to see Lord Smoke on the water? Why not leave him mysterious, and just reference him as his master? Calling him the Supreme Leader makes him sound like some kind of bullshit. People don't use that phrase, ever.
