>Government employee
>Have to send an inventory list to another office
>List is stored electronically
>Rules for sending inventories predate Windows
Now the fun begins:
>Print out inventory
>Photocopy (printing 2 copies aren't allowed, differences between printings might occur)
>Archive photocopy
>Produce receipt
>Copy receipt and store in pending receipt folder
>Bundle up receipt and inventory
>Send by post
>Bundle arrives at requesting facility
>Return my receipt, keep a copy in their archive and producing a receipt of their own for my receipt

Glad to know I'm not the only one. The other horribly accurate thing about Brazil was its portrayal of how people are harmed by the machine, there are very few actual evil bastards, indeed, there are plenty of people trying to do their job to the best of their abilities but the sheer scale and supposed infallibility of the machine results in incredible damage, both through neglect and through unthinking malice.
