I'm happy if it turns out he's a giant, and I'm happy he's actually 7 feet tall. Based on the current story, it would make more sense if he wasn't that big, from a narrative perspective. But that first shot of him was visually quite stunning.

I find it extremely odd he is all CGI. This is a film which brought back practical effects when appropriate, and the appearance we're shown was very simple. They wouldn't make him CGI for no reason.

Generally I think altering classic films is wrong, but the first version I saw was those "LAST CHANCE TO SEE THE ORIGINAL VERSIONS!" VHS tapes. And Christ was that Emperor disappointing. Boba Fetts voice change was terrible. Its like the guy phoned it in from New Zealand. Which he probably did. Original voice was more sinister and much better sounding. I don't mind the palpatine change too much. They could have made him a bit darker. His face is too lit up, and its not very mysterious at all. Should have been like how it was in Episode 1. Just shadows for a face. Bespin windows were fine, and so was the Wampa, but I'm pretty sure both of those were Special Edition changes, right?

The Emperor's hologram was pretty big too. There's a high chance it's for show, to look imposing and threatening.
That said, we can't tell for sure just going by the movie itself. He could be that big, but that'd make actually filming a confrontation really difficult.

I think J.J. wants to please everybody.
