I actually prefer miniseries and anthologies more than regular tv serials.
With tv shows it feels like the writers are making shit up as they go along. Often sub plots are extremely uneven and just end up unsatisfying. There is also a fan list for "I hope next season would be even better." Instead of "Damn that was pretty good. So good in fact that I don't need a sequel."
With a miniseries or anthology they feel way more focused, the production values, writing and directing are tighter which leads to a far more satisfying conclusion.
Sadly the only miniseries people ever remember are Gen Kill, Pacific and band of brothers
