Way ahead of you

isn't that basically a perfect synopsis of the movie though? It brought fresh new actors while keeping old actors in the rotation, and brought about new ideas while referencing past events.
>>

After over seven years of Marvel cape trash getting praised, this is the point where you lose your trust in RT?
>>
>>63892697
Those are valid reasons to dislike the movie.
>>
>>63891784
Why OP!? It was literally Fanservice: The Movie with. MUH ORIGINAL CHARACTERS and the same exact fucking plot from Episode 4. That's what people want right? Nothing original, just the same spoon fed shit over and over.

That seems about right comparing this to other Star Wars flicks.

No i realize everybody is entitled to their opinion i just notice that being a contrarian for the sake of being a contrarian is popular on this board.
>>
>>63893074
Yes, it being blatant, pandering, plagarism of ANH does make it a bad movie.
>>
>>63893267
So yes then.

If you use the word "contrarian," you're literally an idiot. It's an invented concept by idiots with childish sensibilities who are too fragile to deal with criticism of mediocre media that has widespread appeal.

It's a troubling manifestation of millennials' mental weakness. Seriously, the only people who would even entertain any "argument" involving the concept of being "contrarian" are weak, lazy idiots who can't deal with criticism substantively.

If it bothers you that much that people criticize mediocre mass-marketed work designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator, like Star Wars, Breaking Bad, pop music, etc., you should find a safe bubble and stay there. Or kill yourself.
>>
>>63893310
>plagarism

Disney owns Star Wars. It's not like Lucas didn't rehash a ton of in the prequels. It's called poetry, it rhymes.
>>
>>63891951
New ideas? It was ANH reskinned, you stupid nigger.
>>
>>63893313
agree with it all except for the millennial part. Lot of people in this age gap didn't like TFA and are honestly disussing about it
>>
>>63893491
Every person I know who saw ANH in 77 liked this movie. The people I know who dislike it have been around my age. The age of the EU faggot, mid to late 20's. Star Wars had a huge resurgence in the 90's.
>>
Rotten Tomatoes is the percentage of critics who gave positive reviews. What counts as positive? Does 6/10? If they all gave it a 6/10, a 95% can be misleading about it's actual quality.
>>
>>63893388
>didn't rehash a ton of in the prequels
he didn't reshash a single thing

he produced poetry

J.J. couldn't rhyme to save his life
>>
Rotten Tomatoes is right though.
>>
>>63893619
Really because its been the opposite for me
>>
Do people not realise how RT works? If a everyone gave a movie 7/10 it would have 100% on RT.
>>
>>63893690
I get why he did it. He needed a clean slate. Honestly, if he removed the destruction of Starkiller it would have been up there with IV.
>>
>>63893619
hmm, interesting, i'm towards late 20s too. people around my age here didn't like it, they thought it was at the very best a "meh movie to spend an evening".
>>
>>63893757
>If a everyone gave a movie 7/10 it would have 100% on RT.

This board is terrible. Always has been, atleast you guys aren't /mu/ though, they are so far up there own contrarian asses that when they make something popular they bail on it because its popular.

>>
>>63892086
But it isn't.

It has some problems with pacing, few things aren't explained good enough and the main character is a Mary Sue, but it's a fucking amazing blockbuster movie with ton of creative ideas, likable characters and well directed sequences. It's not the second coming of Christ, but yeah, it's objectively a very well-made movie.

>>63894283

>>
>>63891997
No its bad because awful editing/action scenes, zero gravitas. no attempts at emotional resonance ring true, because they feel like they popped off an assembly line in a nerd's basement. kylo ren is a cartoon, and has zero of the imposing nature of his idol. like a failed pilot episode of a star wars spinoff, this is a joke.
>>

Fuck you. It's not that most people want it, it's that most people will be fine with a mediocre movie.

What people want, even your braindead "normie," is a compelling story. There's no one who wouldn't have wanted an actually well written thought out sci fi movie, if it was possible. I just wish they could balance good story telling with the billions at risk.

You know something funny? in a few months the same people that try to prove this movie suck, will be talking about how great it actually was, and how it felt like a more serious sci fi movie, not a kids movie anymore. btw the prequels are still shit, if you think otherwise you have a shity taste, and I mean like Michael Bay-tier.

>>
>>63892758
this was one of three +90% ratings that made me forget about EVER referencing RT again. I went to Boyhood based on the ratings and wow what a shit film with no story arc or protagonist

Birdman was another one I saw I hated. Wes Anderson's pink hotel movie as another one I didn't hate, but it was pretty trivial.

basically I don't go see movies that might be contenders for next year's Oscars, since so much that gets in the door I can't stand. if they still get talked about by people I know I might got see them, but otherwise I've stopped.
>>
>>63894503

WHAT
ARE
AVERAGE
RATINGS
?

97% of critics thought it was a B/B- movie. They believe it's an above average film. Nothing profound, life changing or a cinema landmark.
>>
i don't get it
they gave jarjar extra time and its still edited very poorly
>>
>>63893207
>He can't see that Supergirl is averaging a C- but a vast majority of critics believe it deserves that C- while the other shows have much higher ratings but tend to polarize the reviewers a bit.

We're talking less than 100 reviewers, a handful objecting to violence or themes alter the meter significantly.
>>
>>63892779
Pretty much this.

TFA is Star Wars-brand capeshit. It's no surprise the ratings are high.
