Say what you will about the EU but at least it explored a lot of different eras and didn't always focus on the same fucking few groups of people all the time. It tried new things. There was bad with the good. A lot was dumb as shit, but a lot was really cool and enjoyable.

Yeah a few EU ideas made it into canon. Coruscant was one, the mention of Quinlan Vos in ROTS, Aayla Secura, giving Aurebesh letters actual meaning instead of being just gibberish, etc.

This was one of my favorite things about it. I mean, I understand Lucas wants the movies to be about the Skywalker family at their core, and that's fine. But I liked seeing all that extra material that focused on different people and different eras. Shit, look at how weird and experimental the old Marvel comics were, for better and for worse. They'd never have the balls to write some of those storylines today.

oh man I drank whiskey for 2 days straight after I found out "Dark Forces" series were sent to the "legends" garbage bin. I alway hoped Katarn would somehow wound up in a new episode, or a spin-off, or at least in a new game. But it won't happen. He's dead.

Retconning the EU makes a lot of sense, since Disney is caring more about actual canon then Lucas ever did. Yeah, we won't see Revan, (our) Bane or Krayt ever, but the new EU will have more grip and be introduced into the TV/Cinema franchise.
Lets say the Visceral game will introduce new characters. These could then actually make a cameo in upcoming movies. This is still better then the total ignorance towards the EU by Lucas, by renaming planets like Korriban to Moriband, because he just fucking can.
