Visual simplicity.
The rebellion's iconic spacecraft is the x-wing fighter. It's not the fastest, not the most heavily shielded, or armed. But it's reliable. These look like newer versions of that trusty fighter they have used for decades. We only saw one squadron.
These are also new tie fighters, more heavily armed, 2 seat craft, and they still move like a bat out of hell, and they seem to be better armed than the old ones in order to fill more roles with one ship.
It's like comparing a mustang from the 80's to one made today.

And they looked really good. It's a simple establishing film. X-wing on one side Tie on the other. simple visuals. When we see more than one squadron on screen at a time you will likely see updated Awings Bwings and Ywings.
Maybe even some odd looking tie fighters. Does it really matter?
