It feels so forced, and I truly believe that the big twist was just because it was a struggle to get Harrison Ford to come back (since he has grown to hate his role as Han Solo) and killing him off in the first film was the only way to get him to sign on.
Kylo Ren should have been a self-taught force user who maybe found some Sith teachings and used them as a basis. He should have been hyped as this big bad scary guy who is the First Order's posterboy and can do some flashy tricks, but gets trounced if he had to fight a real trained force user.
