film fans are absolutely the most pretentious people in the world. at least people interested in literature and philosophy are grappling with genuinely complex issues

how often are you standing in line at a theatre and some kid in a suit and tie taps down his glasses like guido and starts grinning at everyone around him as if he is right now the subject of some smug examination of pretentious art circle banality?
>>
>>63758541
And people who are into literature or philosophy can't also be fans of film?

You both have a good point. But let's face it, even accounting for Truffaut, Godard, Bergman et. al., film fans aren't exactly the Algonquin Roundtable.

Agreed. Film is simply outdated now that we have videogames.
>>
>>63758541
Most "film fans" are actually into litterature and philosophy as well.
And people who are interested in litterature and philosophy also often have some interest in cinema too.
People can have more than one interest or hobby, y'know.

>Truffaut, Godard, Bergman

>all these entry-level plebs

Yeah of course their fans are bad, they are the Stephen King of film.
>>
>>63759762
videogames are the worst. everyone was going nuts over the 'great story' in the last of us, which ended up being barely a twist on the 'modern' zombie shit everyone else was doing.

nah
Stephen King is pretty much one inch or two above the lowest common denominator.
The correct equivalent would be Camus
>also french
>tackles some "deeper issues" with some good ideas but often a horrible form (The Stranger that says nothing while pretending to do so, The Plague that takes way too long to deliver a shallow message, both pretty much going for an anti-style that is at best uninteresting, at worst tedious)
>massively overrated by audiences and critics alike
>necessary if you want to have some cred
>entry-level and the only known name in a larger movement
>>
>>63759762
I watched that scene in the game, big fucking deal.
>>
>>63759930

Yeah, yeah, give the video game reviewers a break, they never read books or watch movies except Mad Max Fury Road, they spend all their time in their mom's basement playing Zelda. TLoU's story isn't great but it's still outstanding for a video game.
>>
>>63758541
reading is too left brained, passive and uncreative for the participant.

right sided visual creative stimuli is where it's at.

the egyptians were onto something.
>>
>>63759989
Camus would be shittier than Godard/Truffaut/Bergman though.
Your points stand but Camus is garbage, at least the movies directors made watchable stuff and were considered innovative at their time. Camus is just bland and lazy.

use more meaningless cliches friend
Camus does suck though
>>

Nah, Camus can be okay at times. Some parts of the Plague are great, they are just buried in a mass of unnecessary descriptions and unimportant events.
He just never tried hard enough, or well enough, making him the perfect equivalent of Goddard.
Sartre would be a good equivalent for Bergman though, always trying as hard as possible, and never getting any worthwile result.

>reading is too left brained, passive and uncreative for the participant.
Nigga you what. Reading is by definition an active process, if you don't manually process the arbitrary symbols you see into words nothing happens. If you don't visualize those words as ideas then you'll never experience the story fully.

With a movie you can have your senses bombarded by visual and audio information without you having to do anything. A book isn't going to give you a torrent of visuals or sounds, those are things you have to extract manually from the text, create for yourself.

>at least people interested in literature and philosophy are grappling with genuinely complex issues
That's very pretentious anon. You can think about, and deal with important issues without making the assumption that you're somehow smarter than everyone else. It is possible to enjoy deeper thoughts without bragging about the fact that you do so.

definitely one of the worst posts ive ever had the misfortune of reading

please be bait

>lowest common denominator
that is true though, King pretty much writes for bored teens who find it cool to read someone who isn't dead and isn't taught in schools, and it only keeps them interested by having violent scenes, "suspensefull" pacing and spooky mysteries. It gets you interested by promising exactly what the movies you like also have.
>says nothing while pretending to do so
Again, it's pretty much true. Take the Stranger for exemple. It tries to bring up some elements that could be the driving thematic of a whole novel by themselves, but in the end they are just mentionned. You have all sorts of elements that are present (reason versus compulsion ; absurdity within reality ; guilt...) but none of them is explored. It brings up a lot of questions but doesn't even try to offer any answer, or even just take a deeper and longer look at the problematics it raises.
>massively overrated by audiences and critics alike
Camus being one of the very few writers post 1950 recognized and studier by the french academia is a scandal. Add in the fact that the others are Sartre and Sagan, and it's even worse.
>>
>being this offensive to people who watch films
Some of us are illiterate, that's why we prefer watching movies to reading. Have you ever thought about that, asshole?
>>

>>63760176

sorry if im being to scientific for you.
brainscans show that reading stimulates less brain activity and less activity in the creative areas of the brain, than visual media.

B-bu-butbut, how can you read the subtitles?

lol, it's obvious you haven't been around them for long. like absolutely any other group on the planet, 90% of them are insufferable and dilettantes

I didn't have a problem with his points I had a problem with how he made them. It was embarrassing to read and made my teeth hurt.
