He has to choose between killing Han and thus still being in a position where he can control Rey's fate, or giving up, returning with Han and then have Snoke confront Rey directly. the Knights of Ren were actually after Rey but it was Kylo who "sacrificed" himself and willing gave himself up to the Knight of Ren so that they wouldn't go after Rey. And all he has being doing since then has been to protect Rey, maybe?
