Yep. Season 1 had a better start and ending. Season 2 had better build up, only it ended in a complete disappointment in it's last two episodes. Season 1 actually delivered.

I remember bitching about the first season's finale because of how Lester's death was too sudden compared to the rest of the episode.
Compared to the second season's last two episodes, that episode is the greatest episode of all time.
Season 1 is indeed better, OP.

Actually it ascended to the next level of televisual art in the last 2 episodes. History will prove you wrong. If the sopranos had just ended you would be here saying the cut to black was a shitting of the bed, a squandering of potential.

I felt really bad about the Gerhardts. The emotion actually made me dislike the season as a whole a little more.

As fans of the first season noted, the second season ends with Zahn McClarnon’s now-fugitive Hanzee assuming the new identity of Moses Tripoli. Mr. Tripoli was the mob boss who employed Sam Hess, the bully who pestered Martin Freeman’s Lester Nygaard in Season 1 that helped set off that chain of bloody events. Mr. Tripoli also had two henchmen, Mr. Wrench and Mr. Numbers — one who is hearing impaired just like one of the boys playing in the field the last time we see Hanzee at the end of Season 2.

Hawley said the writers decided to add this twist “as we were breaking the second half of the season.”

I enjoyed season 1 for Lester and Malvo, didn't have a strong opinion on the other characters but it was an okay show 5 / 10
Bearing in mind that television is dogshit these days and so for 2015 it's 10 / 10 ebin brabo

I watched the first episode of season 2 and decided right then and there it was gay as fuck and the quirk factor was gag-worthy. 0/10

You obviously have no appreciation for great scenography, acting and script; which all of the shows I mentioned have it all. Fargo was a fucking meme-show, referencing everyone and everything that the writer found 'cool'. And when Freeman started narrating that one episode, spoonfeeding the viewers explaining what just happened, that was really low.

Maybe you people should watch more shows and then choose a 'best tv of the year'. Stop watching the most overrated shows and then speaking your hive minds "bes shuw on tv rite now, hans down".

Go watch Jessica Jones or whatever other overhyped show you jerk off onto.

Fargo season 1 was literally Reddit: The Show

and i'm not just saying that to be a memesman, Billybob Thornton's character was a tryhard Anton Sughur with little memologues that didn't have any real weight or value, but were just there to make him seem cool and edgy.

Everything about the show felt as forced and unnecessary as the existence of the show itself.

I was considering checking out Season 2 after hearing about some of this UFO stuff but if it actually managed to be worse than the first season I'm staying away.

TV shows that try to emulate the style and substance of films almost always fail. Cant stand TV for the most part desu.

You people miss the point. Episode 9 was the climax and Episode 10 was the resolution. All the characters finished their arcs in completely satisfying ways... mostly.

S1 was better overall but episodes 5-9 were fantastic, the Finale kinda felt like they ran out of stuff to do. My main two disappointments were:

1. Should have let Hanzee disappear into the shadows, could have left the door open for a later return.

2. They never explained how Lou got the limp. He didn't get shot.
>>
>>63682759
The aliens were great and the rest of episode 10 was great, but hanzee alone means it will never be GOAT like it could have been.

Lou getting shot happened later on, I was hoping they would show it, but it would contradict Molly being in math class when it happened.

This guy gets it.

Bookends of Season 1 (Eps 1-4 and 8-10) were great.

Season 2 had better consistency but peaked at Episode 8 with its god-tier direction and great writing.

Can take or leave the issues with Episode 9 - the alien interaction should have been more ambiguous imo, the Sioux Falls Massacre was underwhelming to say the least and the direction was crap

Episode 10 was fucking abysmal though
>>
>>63690230
episode 10 > episode 9
>>
> Breaking Bad built its final season on the Percy Bysshe Shelley poem Ozymandias. That poem’s theme of “look on my works, ye mighty, and despair” is a pretty solid echo of the empire-building speech Hanzee’s associate gives him at the end of “Palindrome.” But Fargo cited a different literary influence throughout its second season. It’s Noreen’s copy of Albert Camus’s The Myth of Sisyphus that holds the key to Fargo Season 2. And it was there in the very first episode.

> Fargo made no secret about the book’s importance. The third episode was titled “The Myth of Sisyphus” and Ed gave that great “pushing the rock” in Episode 6.

> But just when you thought you had decided that Ed Blumquist was the Sisyphus of Fargo Season 2, along comes the finale to demonstrate that each and every one of these characters are pushing a rock of their own. For Mike Milligan that rock ends up being the drudgery of paperwork (not a parade) that awaits him back home. For Betsey it’s taking care of her family during what little time she has left. For Peggy it was the relentless search for California. And for Lou it was the dogged pursuit of moral right in a world filled with so many wrongs, as exemplified by the Sisyphian war story he told Peggy. Of course, Lou’s quest would be picked up by his daughter, Molly, in the future.

> For Hanzee, I suppose, that rock was the pursuit of respect, of power, and of never feeling less than. (How Walter White of him.) It took a while, but in Season 1 along came Lorne Malvo to kick Hanzee’s rock back down the hill. Though you may raise an eyebrow at the lengths Fargo went to in order to tie its two seasons together with a bow, you have to admire the consistency of the theme and the cerebral ambition of creator Noah Hawley. There’s no show with quite as many layers currently airing on TV and we can all count ourselves lucky that Hawley is coming back to do it all over again in Season 3.
>>
>>63689557
I refuse to believe that's Hanzee. That would still be too retarded.

Layers?

So basing the entirety of the show's themes around a single philosophical text, whilst regurgitating visual cues from Coen Brothers films, is considered genius?

>The biggest nigga since niggas done been been in niggadom.

Yeah, I finally got around to wtaching the S2 finale and it was underwhelming. I agree with the anon that said S2 had more consistent episodes while S1 had better bookends.

Dunst was given fuck all to do after the great stuff in the cabin. Ed was barely given any kind of worthwhile sendoff. Milligan was a good character that seemed like he didn't really affect the plot much (SEEMED, I know he did plenty) and I enjoyed his fuck-you ending.

The whole Hahnzee thing came out of left field and would've been alright if he was a cypher and not the dude from S1. All the stuff with Lou was fine. I didn't mind the alien stuff, but I think it would've been more compelling being more ambiguous. Plus there wasn't enough Jean Smart, who looked exactly like my grandma.

All in all, it lost a lot of steam toward the end and that's a shame. Still better than most of what's on TV probably.

So, what was each of you guys takeaway from season 2?
Mine was that we pretty much got it right with traditional values and sense of community, but external forces keep trying to tear us away from it and "fix" something that isn't broken, especially during dark times. You ain't going to find any comfort or answers reading long dead pretentious Frenchmen, no self help courses or big cause schemes will actualize you beyond who you truly are and no visitors from another planet are going to reveal themselves to bring us peace and harmony.
The only solids we can rely on in our one way course trough the sea of absurdity are friends, family and the kindness of strangers.
