http://www.bigfinish.com/news/v/season-six-of-doctor-who---the-fourth-doctor-adventures

>Recording is now complete for Series 6 of the Fourth Doctor Adventures, which stars Tom Baker, Lalla Ward and John Leeson, and will be released in 2017.
>Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter will reprise their roles as Henry Gordon Jago and Professor George Litefoot in the first story of the series, written by Jago & Litefoot Script Editor Justin Richards. The release begins a bumper run of nine stories, which also feature the return of two old enemies, as Romana's past begins to catch up with her...
>Set during the 18th Season of the Classic TV series, The Fourth Doctor Adventures Series 6 will feature contributions from a range of top talent, including new-to-Big Finish writer Adrian Poynton (White Van Man). The remaining stories have been written by Cavan Scott and Mark Wright, James Goss, Phil Mulryne, Jonathan Morris and Andrew Smith. Marc Platt (pictured here with Tom Baker) has penned the two-part series finale.

>set during season 18, which has almost never been touched by the books or audios before, so we might finally get some original stories instead of the umpteenth Seventies pastiche
>no Nick Briggs stories
>only good recurring writers, plus two who are new to Big Finish

This might be it guys.
S6 of the Fourth Doctor Adventures might finally be great.
Pity we won't get it until 2017.

Silliness in Moffat written Doctor Who with the exception of Curse of the Fatal Death is mostly just limited to smarmy quipping.

I don't think he could do something like, say, The City of Death.

>I asked earlier whether the first War Doctor story could really live up to years’ worth of expectations placed upon it. I can safely say that it not only lived up to but in fact also exceeded them. A well written science-fiction war epic, featuring incredible performances and a great way of exploring a briefly seen Doctor like never before. ‘Only the Monstrous’ just might be one of the very best releases given to us by Big Finish all year, and with such strong releases like ‘Dark Eyes 4’ and ‘The Sixth Doctor: The Last Adventure’, I do not say that lightly. Highly recommend for any Whovian.

It doesn't follow entirely the same melody as the usual theme, though, it uses elements and motifs and sections from it but I think the only section that is fully the same as the normal theme is the middle eight. And the fundamentals of the War Doctor are still the same as the usual Doctor.

>I personally would have used the version from the end credits of Day of the Doctor, or a variation on it at least.
But thematically, at the end of Day of the Doctor, John Hurt had become the Doctor again. So he could have his very own proper Doctor theme. It's better for the War Doctor stories that he gets a mutated bastardization of the usual music with dissonance and military overtones.

To be fair to that anon, lots of shows have Christmas specials air on the day new episodes of that show normally air rather than changing it to actually be on Christmas. Now of course Doctor Who always airs on Christmas, but giving the benefit of the doubt they probably just started watching the show or something and you shouldn't be dicks. Keep /who/ comfy, especially this time of year.

I'd like to take a moment to lament the lack of Dalek Time Controller in the Time War. It's practically built for the role, and its presence would allow Nick Briggs to play a Dalek that actually inflects.
I know the original Time Controller's story ended in Dark Eyes 4, but wasn't Dalek Supreme supposed to be building a new Dalek Time Controller from the remains of that French lady who was derived from the Dalek Time Controller's cells?

Plus the guy was a doctor/surgeon so by Earth standards he wasn't exactly an idiot, and he worked for UNIT which specialized in things extraterrestrial. He was definitely capable of creating it, and he was never exactly on the Doctor's side, he put UNIT first. If they captured some Zygons and told him to experiment on them for the sake of giving them an advantage should another invasion occur he'd probably do as he's told.

My thoughts on "Only the Monstrous":

The Innocent - A pleasant surprise. The first War Doctor story is very laid back and character-focused for something set in the Time War. The actual war takes the back seat, but the effect it has on the Doctor is central to the story, as we learn why War can't be like the other Doctors. There isn't much in the way of plot, but it's interesting and it gives Hurt some good material. Thumbs up for me. 7/10

The Thousand Worlds - The story is much less exciting than the title would have you think. Very little happens apart from the Doctor having to sneak into a Dalek base on an occupied planet. Oh, and other Time Lords with guns are breaking into the base too. It's Briggs' favorite plot, and he hadn't used it since Dark Eyes 2, so I should have expected him to take this occasion. It's not outright bad, but most of it feels like filler, and not particularly entertaining filler at that. 5/10

The Heart of the Battle - This is much more interesting. Forcing the Doctor to take the side of the warmongers against the pacifists is a great idea, even though to do that Briggs has to take an important Time Lord strategist and make him do something as stupid as trying to make peace with the Daleks. From the moment you know what he is doing, it's painfully obvious that the Daleks are double-crossing him, though I loved their plan (firing hundreds of planets at Gallifrey to destroy it). There are also some characters who die, but their deaths don't really make much of an impact, even that of the potential companion.. So, I enjoyed it, but I stil had some reservations. 7/10

My problem is that the story doesn't really feel like it needed three episodes to be told, and that's why very little happens in the second part. It could be condensed into two episodes by adding the first 15 minutes of ep 2 (until the Doctor enters the Null Zone) to ep 1, and the rest of it to ep 3.
But even with the weak second episode, I enjoyed it. 7/10

Watching some Classic episodes they have up on Netflix. They only had The Aztecs for First and Mind Robber for Second, but they were alright. Finished Spearhead from Space and I liked it a lot; they have a lot of Three up. I think Pertwee is my favorite from what I've seen so far.

Yeah, it's under "Classic Dr. Who" or something, its not lumped with NuWho. At first I thought they just omitted so many First/Second stories since most of the serials are missing episodes, but Third jumps from his first episode to Three Doctors, so they're just picking and choosing.

No, he wasn't. Ollistra mentioned that he was an important strategist in ep 2, I think. Admittedly, she might have been lying.

For anyone that's wondering:

The reason why the new War Doctor audio hasn't been uploaded anywhere yet is because Big Finish have started to digitally watermark their files. It was rumoured that they would start doing this for a while, but we've analysed our downloads after purchase, and we can confirm that the files contain identifying information. You can read more about the process through a simple Google search.

Someone not in the know will inevitably upload their copy. We're just going to sit back and see how that plays out, whether Big Finish will take legal action etc.
