Here is what I don't fucking get. They have all of these stories in the manga as well as the anime series. They can extrapolate the themes, tech, imagery and iconography and create a new fresh movie in the same universe; perhaps set in the USA instead of Japan with it's own narrative and still use the GITS license. I think many people would enjoy it and they wouldn't need to butcher the source trying to conform to the medium and Hollywood's various mechanisms.
