It's not. His real name is Weiscecorowitz, or something like that. His first name is probably the Polish version of Thomas."Wiseau" comes from a bastardized version of a nickname he got selling cheap bird toys.
Hes story isn't really that mysterious. Greg details it pretty well, and others have gotten more specific. I know it's fun to make up stories about the guy, but he's just a person who emigrated from the Eastern Bloc and managed to get rich through ingenuity and being willing to be kind of shady about things (selling cheap trinkets and counterfeit stuff, etc.).
