It's been awhile since I've seen it but I watched it on a dose of DXM and I had a sense of unholy dread when John Smith went back to Jamestown and it was like a frozen wasteland of half-crazed people. I felt the harsh winter. I felt the warmth of the scenes where he's with the Indians.
The scene where John Smith about to be executed nearly gave me a panic attack. I've generally found DXM to be the perfect drug for Malick films but The New World was my favorite during my brief flirtation with it.
I might watch it again sober tonight.
I dunno man. It's a lovely film, you should certainly see it sober to appreciate it.
I don't like watching movies on DXM. No matter what I watch it feels too intense.

You should try to get yourself to go to either a shakespeare play, a classical music concert, an opera, or a ballet as well. If you don't already like them, you'd start liking them. If you do, then you will like them just the same or even more. Great experience nonetheless.
