Was the Purple Man in Jessica Jones the highest a Dr Who guy has achieved?
>>
"Actually, it was a suggestion from BBC Worldwide, who have been full of excellent suggestions, as the people there in charge of Torchwood are massive champions of the show. Believe me, no-one was being awkward about licensing an existing arrangement (it wasn't going to be a 5-minute job, but it was certainly possible), but we just hadn't thought to suggest a new arrangement until they came to us and said (and here I paraphrase) "But wouldn't it be more FUN if..."
And so we did.
Blair was delighted to do it, Murray was happy for him to go ahead, and the results are thrilling. It's just really ridiculously exciting to have added something new to Torchwood."

Looks like Marigold is pretty amenable to it. We might well get 10 and 11s themes in the audios after all. I wonder if we'll get any 50th music in the war doctor audios
>>
>How you want your series 10 f_am?

>Just delay shooting it to May so we can move the production side over to BBC Studios, meaning a much larger budget, partially to accommodate the Peter Jackson episode which will be extensively promoted

Want to be a part of /who/ secret santa? Heres how!

Step 1: Set up an amazon account
Step 2: If you don't want people to know your full name go to My Account > Personalization > Your public Profile to change your name to something less tracky.
Step 3: Make a public wish list of stuff you want Also make sure you add an address or your not getting shit. Go to List Actions > Update List Profiles. Enable 3rd party to get things from amazon sellers(and save a nice gifter a few bucks)
Step 4: You post your list with everybody elses
Step 5:???
Step 6: Profit!

Don't worry if you can't gift back, thats not what this is about.

According to Day of the Doctor, both the 9th and 12th regenerated from the War Doctor in separate timelines. Why then can Capaldi's doctor remember Amy and Rory in the diner in Hell Bent? Matt Smith never regenerated into Capaldi, who should have no memory of 9 through 11.
>>
>>63567748
We're better than them.
>>
>>63567748
Because those shows are just for plebs.

Doctor Who is for autists.
>>
>>63567701
Moffat was corrupted by the power of the fangirls after seeing how well Day of the Doctor worked with all the fan service (especially Tennant). He was corrupted at his core and became Fangirl Prime.

That's why series 8 and 9 are so bad. It's time to take him down.
>>
>>63567729
Yup, I think some people get wrapped up in their geek tv bubble and misread stuff like Jessica Jones as being a bigger deal than it is (that's not a comment on quality, just prestige and salary as you said).

Tennant's theatre work has gotten him more prestige than any TV work anyway.

Capaldi is also a fucking Oscar winner.

>>63567748
Doctor Who isn't just a TV show, there's lots of other media released often (we have a big John Hurt audio series releasing on Monday for example) like audio stories, comics, books, etc. That, plus the fact the show has over 50 years of history, means there is much more to always talk about. It's not like GOT where there's just the books and the show, and there's a proper "offseason", because Doctor Who has something release at least every two or three weeks.
>>
>>63567786
>According to Day of the Doctor, both the 9th and 12th regenerated from the War Doctor in separate timelines

Nah he's right it was a common theory albeit only retards could think of that: Hurts regeneration didn't show him turn into Eccleston so people went autistic and thought Moffat had a plan (hah, they should know he makes it up as he goes along) in which Hurt regenerated into Capaldi and Capaldi somehow inserted itself between War and 9.

oh i hadnt even seen that cyberman one, it is indeed cute

what are people's general expectations regarding the war doctor audio? I have cautious hype. Hurt is based, and BF surely will have put a lot of effort into their first 'huge' NewWho release. Briggs is a mixed bag. Setting the story so close to the 50th (presumably when the War Doctor is winding down and not so violent) is playing it a bit safe.

>>63568328

Magician and Witch both had plenty of good character interactions, particularly between the doctor and davros
People are too caught up complaining about the plot being basic or some shit and they're missing the actual point
>>
>>63568194
Briggs is probably over the moon to get to do his own 'McGann" (Doctor with little TV adventures that he can make up a huge story arc for) so I imagine he'll be giving it his all. Who knows if that's enough though.

Clara's unbearable, Ashildr is even worse than Danny Pink, the stories are way too long, the Hybrid prophecy doesn't even have a definitive answer, Time Lords are fucking trumped on, Rassilon is now a frightened shivering mouse, more Tumblr pandering than ever, ... it's fucking shit.

Forget the divorce subplot and it's a pretty good story.

Mercy was great, I don't know what you wanted.

Akhaten is great, people hate it because there's singing and a sun with a face, which is ridiculous but not more than huge green farting babies from space.

Hide's plot wasn't dumb.

Name was too rushed yeah but it had Day coming right behind. Moffat had to save something for the 50th.

Not true

The pacing was perfectly fine (significantly better than the rushed messes of 6 and 7)

Yes it did, were you not paying attention? The hybrid was the doctor and clara, were they to stay together the doctor would have eventually destroyed gallifrey in an attempt to bring her back from the dead. It's a little contrived but there was definitely a definitive answer

The stories are fucking depressing, Clara has a death wish, Davros is dying, Ashildr dies as a young girl then remains alive for billions of years and sees atrocious shit, speech about war and its casualties, Clara fucking dies, the Doctor spends 4.5 billion years trapped in a castle, ...

Thanks but no thanks, life is already horrible, Doctor Who is supposed to be entertaining drama that makes us think of something brighter, lighter, funnier than the shit world we currently live in, not drama that recalls us the shit that's going on everywhere around the world and make us want to kill ourselves.
>>

>Yes it did, were you not paying attention? The hybrid was the doctor and clara, were they to stay together the doctor would have eventually destroyed gallifrey in an attempt to bring her back from the dead. It's a little contrived but there was definitely a definitive answer

No. Ashildr says it's a theory and punctuated her theory with "maybe" everywhere. It was definitely NOT a definitice answer.

I liked the two parter than began the season, and the Zygon two parter, but everything else was shit.Yes, even Heaven Sent. It was superbly acted and watching Capaldi in it was so much fun, but the plot was super predictably and Hell bent made it retroactively worse
>>
>>63568351
It had 7 for me. And of those. the Library two-parter, Midnight and Turn Left were top tier.
IMO, no (full-length) season has had less than 6 or more than 9 good episodes ("good" being at least a 7/10 in my book). It's how good the good episodes are, and how bad the bad ones are that decides the quality of the season.
I'm gonna rewatch S9 during the weekend and make my own ranking. For now, I believe it would be something like:
1>5>4>8>3>7b>4s>6>2>7a
>>
>>63568695

On the tardis afterwards 12 mentions how 'he became the hybrid'
Given the suggestions that were thrown out there and the fact he says 'became' as opposed to 'am', deductive reasoning concludes that the hybrid was him and clara (especially since the purpose of that scene is ensuring that they are separated because he acknowledges the danger)

She wasn't though, this season has a Clara that wasn't going MUH DANNY left and right and was actually in it on the fun. Seriously, S9 is disappointing but Clara's acting isn't even a problem

>Ashildr is even worse than Danny Pink
True, worst of all she could be a really interesting character but she just falls on the default shit that Moff writes.
I mean fucking seriously, BITCH WAS AT THE LAST SECONDS OF THE UNIVERSE AND WAS ACTING LIKE EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL.

>the stories are way too long
Debatable, but even then you're wrong. If anything the stories were too fast, like Under the River and Before the Flood.

>the Hybrid prophecy doesn't even have a definitive answer
Yep, yep. Annoying as fuck methaporical shit and no satisfying payoff seems to be what Moffat is going for with his recent finales.

Not even close. This was a re-do of last year. Really great series, lots of fantastic episodes, some bad ones, Capaldi being based and a fucking amazing first part finale, only to be shat on by a complete piss second parter. This season was pretty good, you just can't see it because you're still raging over Hell Bent.
>>
>>63568663
It sounds like you're sensitive to that stuff, fair enough, but personally I think those are interesting and compelling themes to explore and they did a good job of balancing it with hopefulness and some lightness so that my little brother was able to watch these stories without being traumatised. >Yep, yep. Annoying as fuck methaporical shit and no satisfying payoff seems to be what Moffat is going for with his recent finales.

It's still not as bad as "this is the story of how I died, by the way died means my name was on the list of the dead and I'm still alive" or "one of you will die, by die I mean have your memory wiped which means that part of your personality will die"

At least the concept of a hybrid leads itself a little better to a metaphorical definition than saying someone dies

Sixie's story is called 'Judoon in Chains'.

>Judoon in Chains by Simon Barnard and Paul Morris sees the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) land in Victorian England, where he finds a Judoon Warrior imprisoned in a traveling freak-show! But Captain Kybo is a Judoon with a difference...
>The Rhino-headed stormtroopers will once again be voiced by the master of monsters and Big Finish Executive Producer Nicholas Briggs.
>'It was such a thrill to be a Judoon or two again.' says Nicholas. 'It's been a while, and this time there were great challenges in this rather lovely script by Simon and Paul'.
Join Colin and Nicholas are Trevor Cooper as Jonathan Jaggers Esq, Kiruna Stamell as Eliza Jenkins, Tony Millan as Justice Burrows and Nicholas Pegg as the Business Owner.
'I love this script.' says Director Barnaby Edwards. 'The Judoon fit perfectly into the Victorian era: freak shows, celebrated legal cases, late-Gothic literature, burgeoning theories on liberty and an individual's rights, and so on. I'm delighted with the cast, too. They all bring a reality and a necessary humanity to these towering nineteenth-century archetypes. And Nick Briggs gives a frankly astonishing performance as Kybo.'
>'How brilliant to be able to take a hugely popular monster like the Judoon, and have them in a Sixth Doctor story.' says Producer David Richardson. 'These Classic Doctors, New Monsters stories have been such an exciting prospect to work on, and the four stories contract beautifully.'
>Doctor Who: Classic Doctors, New Monsters Volume 1 will be released in July 2016, and will include three further stories featuring the Weeping Angels, Sycorax and Sontarans.

1.1 The Innocent

As the Daleks mass their time fleet for a final assault on Gallifrey, something ancient is waiting for them at Omega One. And a sacrifice must be made.

Arch manipulator and Time Lord strategist, Cardinal Ollistra receives shock news of the Doctor’s death.

Meanwhile, on the planet Keska, a parochial war has returned to plague a peaceful civilisation after decades of tranquility. But how can such a war have any connection with the great Time War which, at any one moment in the whole of eternity, could threaten to tear the universe apart?

If only the Doctor were still alive.

1.2 The Thousand Worlds

With the high ranking Time Lord Seratrix behind enemy lines, the War Doctor finds himself assigned to a rescue mission. But any room for manoeuvre is severely restricted by an area of space known as the Null Zone.

Times have changed on Keska, and a countdown to destruction is beginning.

But who are the Taalyens and what is their part in the great and terrifying Dalek plan?

1.3 The Heart of the Battle

Trapped in a citadel swarming with Daleks, the Time Lord rescue force must find a way to overcome insurmountable odds. With the Daleks apparently planning to rule the Null Zone, perhaps their thirst for universal conquest and victory has been quenched…

The War Doctor doesn’t believe so — but how can he prove it without destroying any chance of peace?

As the countdown to the destruction of Keska proceeds, a deadly choice must be made… A choice that will define this Doctor and perhaps forever cast him in the role of ‘monster’.

This is the new companion. Moffat was going to bring back Handles but BBC execs wanted something that could emote

That shot was great though.

Is it a good idea to watch the entire RTD era (including the Spin-offs in canon order)?

try putting a cabinet together using a pair of sunglasses instead of a screwdriver, then you'll have your answer senpai

It's kind of busy though isnt it? The previous models kind of had a simple elegance to them. This one looks over machined. Lose the bike chain bits and the metal bracing, shorten the obelisk top part to more of a pyramid and it would look better.

I hope that person is currently sanction by the jobcentre

Matt Smith is not part of the RTD era.

The trailer is full of random noises and snippets of audio that don't really mean much without context. Not very hype.
Stop it, Briggs.

No... just watch Eccleston
>>

I know that

I don't think it's his choice alone. The raybans were Moffat's idea and the new sonic being built at the end of Hell Bent was too.
>>
>>63569828
I did it and it was fun, but if you dislike Torchwood or TSJA then it will be extremely tedious
>>

The SFX stuff never works in audio trailers, but hearing Hurt's lines hypes me up
>>
>>63569828
It depends. Do you like what you have seen so far of the spinoffs? Do you have the stamina for such a marathon?
>>
>>63569828
never watched SJA so dunno if it is worth watching, but Torchwood S1 before Doctor Who Series 3 works okay, and then S2 Torchwood before Doctor Who S4 works alright too. It's not essential, but it's nice

Moffat sits in and has final say on the finished episode edit. It wasn't a sneak job.
