Please explain to me why this movie is getting oscar buzz.
Because it's a Reddit tier film and as you know, they just eat that shit up.
Because every aspect of this movie is at the top of their game.
But it has explosions so it doesn't count for legitimate praise
The Oscars are essentially Reddit.
I think it deserves a nod for VFX and possibly sound. I also think it should get nominated (not win) for best director but I'm biased and can totally understand why it won't.

Because it was an original film, that was in actuality fucking fantastic.. I know it isn't a story about a transvestite in Denmark as you guys cream over. It is however a well done action movie, with great cinematography and lack of green screen that has been long overdue in Hollywood.
But this board is so full of either plebs or pretentious fucks, that they won't like a movie unless it has Iron man in it, or is about a crippled gay asian woman..

It's honestly one of the better alternative movie universes in recent memory..
The thematic construction of vehicles and landscape, really adds a depth to the story.
Sicario was great, but it wasn't at all original.. It's easier to write realism rather than write a fantasy that actually works..

Haven't seen it. It's personally been a pretty average year for me at this point but Fury Road comfortably among the best.
So many of the supposedly great films aren't going to be released until Jan here so every chance it slips out. I'm not sure why people suggest it wasn't well made or exciting though?

It's extremely unlikely, and could only be the result of a heavily split voting, but right now, December 11, I would say that the chances of Fury Road winning best picture are some 8%. Mind you that at the beginning of December it was 1%.

For those that actually think this tripe is great, let me ask you just one question:
Who is Immortan Joe and what did he do or stand for in this movie?
He may exist in the frame, but there is no villain in MMFR. He does not lead, executes no tactics, has no clear motive other than 'get muh bitches back'. Even in the chases, you never see him directing any of his soldiers. Why do they follow him? What is his philosophy and why is he the undisputed god of the oasis? The political aspect of this movie is incredibly naive, even worse than capeshit (even Richard Brody says this). There is no sense of intelligent threat or personality to grapple with. He does not adapt or learn through the movies events, he just follows blindly cause that's all Miller knows to let him do. He's so utterly bland, his downfall has no repercussions other than comfy 'happily ever after' bullshit. Maybe he was rationing the water for a reason? Maybe he was trying to cleanse the gene pool of mutations? Hell, you could've made him a carbon copy of Hitler and it'd be more interesting. Instead, we're combating this empty icon the whole time and the celebratory ending is 'ding dong the witch is dead' kinds of stupid.
The whole thing has no idea of what it's fighting for or against, it's the definition of hollow spectacle. Yeah, as spectacle it's better than most of the godawful shit these days, but come on...don't let your brains degrade with the movies.
