I believe Dutch generally can't see the Predator, but uses some context clues to get a sense of its location, and feels it brush up against him at one point and trusts his instincts to know how long it will continue looking at him.
Of course, he does see when it is outlined by the fire before he shoots it with the explosive arrow. I think the stealth camo is not up to the task of mimicing a flame. It may also have had a momentary glitch in the scene you are talking about. The whole idea throughout the movie is the Predator may be advanced, but it is not perfect.

This is what separated Conan the Barbarian from other sword and fantasy flicks. It had layers of Nietzsche in a Bildungsroman format. The fact that they even did their homework and had Thulsa emulate the Old Man in the Mountain and his Assassins blew my mind.
Even as a kid, I figured out how Conan solved the Riddle of Steel after his father's sword broke. Up until then, Conan relied on his father's and even Thulsa's views of power. The breaking of the sword signified Conan defining his own answer; hence how he defeated Doom.

Predators sucked despite having an okay script.
Predator 2 thematically was am urban jungle, contrasting the actual jungle from the original. Also Gary buesy gets chopped in half. The first is the best but the sequel is fine.

However as the years have gone by Predator 2 has not aged too well while Predator 1 is still as awesome as ever.

The only two things that haven't aged too well are is the opening shootout in LA, chocked full of cheesy 80's TJ Hooker sound effects, and the over the top outfits the Jamaicans are wearing in the penthouse.

I liked Predators when I watched it in the theater and I still watch it every now and then on blue ray.
It's an honest to goodness old school action adventure movies that doesn't shit on the lore too badly.
The only things I didn't care for was the obviously cgi fire from the giant explosion part in the middle of the movie and obviously Lawrence Fishburne who gave one of the all time wtf? performances in movie history. Right up there with Brando in The Island Of Dr Moreau.

Predator 2 is genuinely good. It's not as good as the first one, but it does a fantastic job of translating the premise from tropical jungle to urban jungle. It makes sense because it's been established the predator likes to hunt
a) where it's HOT
b) people with weapons
It's just the same enough and yet just different enough. Instead of military tough cunts trying to beat this alien, it's cops who are used to dealing with violent gangs. And it works. I love how the voodoo guys think it's a demon.
The only thing I really don't like about it is the scene near the end where Glover discovers Gary Busey's secret operation to catch the predator, and it is basically a rip off of Aliens, when Ripley is in the APC with the lieutenant and they're watching what's happening on the monitors. For a couple of minutes it's almost an exact remake. They even use some of the same lines.
But then after that is the glorious final fight scene that goes for ages across multiple locations and then you get to see the badass predator ship.
Predators was alright second time round. It's a fuckton better than AVP1 and 2, even with Adrian Brody doing his best Bale-Batman voice
