Batman Returns is fucking epic. What is your problem with it?
>>
>>63496494
i like michelle pfeiffer in tight leather, so that's cool. no problem here.
>>
>>63496494
i have no problem with it, I adore both of them
>>
No problem except he killed that guy
>>
>>63496494
Nothing, this and 1989 Batman are pretty good. Great even.

But I'm not a contrarian/nostalgiafag who thinks they're better than the Nolan trilogy.
>>
Its script is retarded and Batman is barely in it.
>>
>>63496494
Saw it when it came out and many times after that. It used to be my favorite movie as a kid.
>>
Without a doubt the greatet rendition of Catwoman. She fukin unnerves me everytime. Penginue is just outright terrifying. Kids would piss themselves today.
>>
Loved it when I was a kid, but watching it nowadays it looks more cartoonish than even the 89 Batman, but nowhere near as bad as the Schumaker Batmans
>>
>>63496494

nice reddit movie

Not a problem at all.

It's the best Batman film. In fact it's one of my all time favorite movies.

I like it a lot but the Penguin stuff is pretty lame.

Goofier than the dark knight rises

Nothing. It's generally considered the best Batman film by /tv/, for whatever that's worth. It's the best acted one by far. Pfeiffer is great, Keaton's great, Walken is his usual awesome. Di Vito overplays things a bit, but it's a fucking comic book movie, knock yourself out.

Super dark and funny as hell. Great movie.
>>
reminder that penguin in this movie is a insane sociopathic child killing thalidomide baby with black ichor for blood who took over a circus and made it's performers into his own personal gang

No problem for me neither. This is a great batman movie, maybe the best. I could bitch about act 3 but it would be meaningless. The score is grandiose, the sets are fabulous, the costumes are swag as fuck and the casting is flawless. 9/10 would bang again

Tim Burton wasn't allowed to make another one.

Batman Returns is glorious.

Enjoyable movie, just not Batman.

It absolutely ruined the image of the penguin for years in the comics as a result of this abomination of character design, however, and that truly pisses me off.

Keaton is god tier Batman, and Michelle gave me a very new fetish.

It was my first Batman movie and introduction to Batman that I saw on VHS recorded from TV when I was 7 in 1997. I fucking love it. My favourite Batman movie bar none. The way it showed Bruce as a loner with nothing to live for (the scene where he's just waiting for the bat signal while a party is going on downstairs) is amazing and the how Shrek was basically the 3rd villain is great as well.

Also, not having that much Batman is great. Batman is better when its about his rogue galleries anyway.

Up to this day I still find it amazing that they were able to top Batman which featured Nicholson.

Nah. Killer Croc is dumb muscle villain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UUr7bM1A6s

Penguin, meanwhile, is a schemer. Instead of fighting Batman head-on, he comes up with a plan to ruin him and is able to outsmart the Bat (although Batman eventually outsmarts him in the end).

A Killer Croc film would have ended with a fight scene where Batman and Croc punch each other. I don't think Batman ever even hits Penguin (granted, it's been a while since I've seen the movie).
>>
Best live action Batman
>>
>>63504164
>Nah. Killer Croc is dumb muscle villain.

And that's why every story with him sucks.
It's just "hurr durr i am big stronk monster" and it always plays out the exact same way.

In this movie, Penguin isn't actually very intelligent. His overarching plan in the movie is to kidnap a bunch of children and drown them. He doesn't really have any kind of intelligent discourse with anybody, he never outsmarts Batman at any point. All of his underhanded plans in this movie come from other characters, Max Shreck decides he should run for Mayor, Catwoman comes up with the plan to make Batman out to be a monster and have everyone turn on him. All Penguin wants to do is kill kids and wreak havoc because he was born a freak.

What makes Batman Returns the best Killer Croc story is exactly BECAUSE it doesn't revolve entirely around Batman just having a "who can punch harder" fight with the bad guy, instead it explores the inner emotions of what an unwanted mutant would feel and his plan to get revenge on a world that rejected him before he was even born.

Also, the killer croc in your video was Batman in a killer croc costume.
>>
The Nolan films are better honestly.
They actually followed the comics.

>>
>>63504523
>"Killer Croc should have emotional depth"
No. That's what the Penguin is for. Penguin is a freak who cries about it and gets revenge. Killer Croc is a straight-out monster.

A good Killer Croc movie would almost be a horror film, and nothing like Batman Returns.
>>
>>63504619
By that comparison with the exception of Dent becoming Twoface Gotham is far closer to the original comics than TDK because it has more in common with the Long Halloween.
>>
>>63504639

>>63504654

>>
>>63504711
Killer Croc isn't boring, though. He's exciting and thrilling when done right and treated like an inhumane monster, when they get the suspense right and really put Batman on the ropes.

Turning him into a thug or a goon is what sucks. He should be almost an urban legend (considering he's based on a real life urban legend) in Gotham, something truly not human, which is why giving him heavy emotions is also a bad idea. Let Killer Croc have his thing and Penguin have his thing.

In Batman Returns, Penguin is pretty monstrous, the only thing that really makes it "emotional" is it explores what makes him like that.

He still bites and murders people in the movie, and alot of people consider the scenes with penguin to be pretty creepy and frightening.

It's just the movie also asks "hey, would he really have been a monster if society didn't make him that way?"

I don't get why you feel the need that a character should only be depicted one way, especially a comic book character when characterisations often change and are fluid.
There never was a story in the comics that ever really attempted to add humanity to Killer Croc, and that's why he's pretty weak. Other Batman Villains have evolved over time and gained backstories that add to their character and make them interesting, and they tend to be the ones that stay popular over the years.
Killer Croc is just "Boo scary monster" and thats it.

I kind of left out one of the important parts of the comic. Croc escapes prison by biting off his own arms, he's found by a woman and she restores him back to health, starts talking to him and treating him like a human, calls him by his first name, isn't scared of him, touches him etc etc. In exchange for it he helps them out with a few things, becomes their bodyguard then the betrayal happens. It's all kinda sad.

Not too bad for a short story.

They fail at that, though. The closest Nolan's Batman comes to grit is a gravely voice, and even that is a huge joke.

Nolan's Batman also isn't realistic at all.

All Nolan's Batman has is the veneer of being a badass Batman, something only young teenage boys fall for. The movies are the equivalent of a shirt with flames on it.

The difference is that the story was about them having a relationship and leading him to believe there's hope then trying to have him killed.

A story like that would never work with Jason because that's just not what Jason is, it works plenty fine for a Batman Villain though, especially since Modern Batman is all about his villains being human beings who are only evil because of the wrongs society did to them.
>>
>>63505895
>And then, Jason looked at the blood on his hands.

>>63505895

>>
>>63506066
You can literally see where you began the decision-making process to put brackets around the ratings... good list though.
>>
>>63506034
Thing is, when Superman does something like that, it's like, an elsewhere comic or whatever.

Red Sun isn't "our" Superman. He's another Superman.

If they did that with "our" Superman, people wouldn't like it. It's poor writing to be inconsistent with a character. If you're writing a character that has had multiple authors, you need to research that character for the sake of consistency.

It's like if Batman pulled a gun on people. Yeah, people wouldn't like that. But if it's Batman's dad in a reality created by the Flash fucking up time, people can dig it because that's not the same character.
>>
>>63506088
Oh so it's only cool if it's an elseworlds comic that isn't canon.

Not like they ever visited an alternate universe or anything and met an evil superman, not like the comic we're talking about is a main canon storyline for Batman.

It's also a fucking comic book, canon is meaningless in the world of comics, all that matters is the individual story in this day and age.
>>
>>63506066
Nightwing: Year One (aka Tom Yum Goong) 9/10
Cassandra Cain: Year One (aka Chocolate) 9/10
>>
>>63506088
>If you're writing a character that has had multiple authors, you need to research that character for the sake of consistency.
I disagree. I treat every author's work as their own canon - it's the healthiest way to read comics. No character inconsistencies, but also less plot-holes and general problems across the range of works.

Like, whatever Millar does with Superman is Millar-canon. Obviously there are exceptions, like when a writer is explicitly and obviously writing an alternate version of an established character, such as Red Son, but I just mean the "our Superman" you refer to. I don't treat any series with multiple writers as one overarching canon - each writer's run is a new spin on the character, as far as I'm concerned.
>>
>>63506149
You're right, consistency is for chumps. Batman would have been much better if he just started shooting people in the middle of the film. And then he starts robbing banks. Then he goes back to crime fighting like nothing ever happened. Then he fucks a prostitute, murders her, and wears the corpse. Then the movie ends with Gordon saying he's the hero Gotham needs.
>>
>>63506171
So The Dark Knight Returns is set in the same universe as Year One? I can get on board with this.
>>
>>63506088
So interpreting Batman Returns as a Killer Croc story is awful because it doesn't fit in line with the canon of the comics?

None of the movies are canon storylines in the comics though, they all just take bits and pieces and change them around and tell their own versions of the stories.
>>
>>63506218
you realize you are defending Batman Returns depiction of it's characters as being true to the comics with this argument don't you?
The movie where Batman sets a guy on fire, Catwoman is a secretary who comes back from the dead through the power of an ancient egyptian cat god, and the penguin is a cold blooded mutant birdman?

I'd love a movie where Joker is about to kill Batman, but then a kid is crossing the street and about to get hit by a car, so Joker is torn between saving the kid and killing his rival. Joker, being a noble man, obviously saves the kid without hesitation, and the evil Batman gets away.

"Looking both ways before crossing the street is no laughing matter," the Joker says, sad that he let a monster like Batman go, but happy the kid is alright.

>>
>>63506740
I understand the point you were making, yes, sometimes people go crazy and make shit that makes no fucking sense.

But adding an emotional element to killer croc makes sense and people would enjoy, and have enjoyed, a story that toys with a mostly untouched part of the character.
It's not the same thing as making a poorly thought out edgy joker story.

Comics are filled with experimentation, some times it pays off and we get better more complex characters out of it. Sometime's it's complete shit.
Why are you so against the experimentation of Killer Croc? Why is it so bad to you that people try out something different?

If nobody experimented or changed anything with comics Batman would just be a ripoff of the phantom.

I adore them. Even Schumachers example of Burtons style of Gotham(which is fitting for the comics) beats the shit out of the boring, realistic and not even Batman trilogy from Nolan.

>>63507417
In livescreen media yes. It's his unique style.

Even the TV series Gotham is inspired by Burton and completely ignores the generic nolan trilogy that doesn't even resemble the comics. Their Gotham is getting increasingly darker and violent as the show goes on. It's very subtle.
>>
The best Gotham is the one in BTAS. It takes everything Burton did right, and the things he did wrong by going too extreme, and tones it down just perfectly for ambiance[sp?].
>>
>>63507583
Where did Burton go too extreme with his depiction of Gotham?
>>
>>63507520
It annoyed me that Nolan's Gotham was sunny, it's supposed to be perma-dim due to all the pollution.
>>
>>63507418
Not to mention the gargoyles, the monorail, the criss crossing metal beams to keep the old city from crumbling. Even the villains were straight out of the comics. They weren't actors. They were actual characters.

Can you Imagine what Burton could have done with Poison Ivy,Two Face,Riddler,Mr Freeze and Bane? In Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.

Arkham games were inspired by Burton aswell.

I want THAT Batman to return and remove this "realistic" generic crap it's honestly boring and just not Batman.
>>

Ruined them the same way he ruined Catwoman, Batman, and Penguin? No thanks.
>>
>>63507583
BTAS Batman was pretty different from Burton's. BTAS was all dark deco, Burton's was all gothic.
>>
>>63507603
General clutter. It's more realistic, in the way that it's how a city the size of Gotham would be, but it's not aesthetic. BTAS solves that problem by using negative space and shadows between buildings and the horizon.

Catwoman was pure sex, but on opening weekend the trailer attached to batman returns was "Cool world".

Kim Basinger as a lewd cartoon woman followed by a latex-clad catwoman. It was a boner overload.

Keep in mind this was 1992 and we didn't have much "toon sex" or lewd anime girls yet. We didn't have latex fetish websites either so the latex catsuit thing was new to a lot of people.
