it's never been better due mostly to the huge leap forward in home theater tech. Sure you lose the "group experience" of watching a movie with 100 or so people but that's about it. Huge tv screens are dumping in price every year, streaming options bring all sort of random films one might normally over look. Release time from theater to home video it getting rather short.
plus all the other films from past decades still exist and a whole lot of them can be watch at home with little effort. I mean sure the new stuff coming out is all sequels and re-re-reboots but a few good movies are in the mix too. It's that the price we have to pay right now for all the better home tech, it's worth it.
that said I am a little shocked at how capeshit has taken over everywhere. I like some of the films but damn does everything need to be another CGI driven super hero show/movie now? Even the zombie flood a few years back of all things zombie was not as bad of a stagnating theme.
