I had just watched Kingsman so this ended up feeling a bit flat to me. The plot was also complete ass so I wasn't very invested.
Still, it was really incredible to watch if only because it gave a sense that, if someone existed who was actually as fucking operator as John Wick, this is exactly how these situations would play out. Considering how many goons he puts down, that's a really incredibly feeling to put forward through choreography.
I mostly just hated the times when he got injured since it never felt like the people who got him earned it, if that makes sense. Like, it's not because he's facing someone equally skilled, he usually just slips up or gets caught off-guard. It seemed like they just made sure he got injured for plot and tension.

John Wick did a great job at realistic fighting (counting bullets, reloading, not completely shitting on everyone CQC like Solid Snake). While he's preoccupied Mozambique drilling henchman that 1 guy takes a random potshot and clips him. Realistically you're more likely to get taken out by some random than anyone that's "earned" it. Think Omar from the Wire. I can see how it makes sense
What doesn't make sense about John Wick was if they were so terrified of him and his reputation, why not shoot him in the face after hitting him with the car. Want to have a protagonist / antagonist heart to heart in a vacant building with the guy tied up? Alright, how about shooting him in the face at that point? No? Want to suffocate the guy with a plastic bag? That's fine. But this guy has been fucking with you the entire movie and literally just set fire to all your entire empire and "priceless" leverage you have on the city. You better stick around to make sure he's actually dead. Nope, Viggo walks away and not 10 minutes later John Wick is on top of his car lubing a Kel-Tec for insertion. For being the ultimate badass John Wick gets 0 respect.
